September, 2023. 🎬

Back when acting was my everyday life, I had this little ritual of recording an introduction video every single day. Not to perfect it, but to become a little more comfortable in front of the camera with each attempt.

While volunteering at the Khidkiya Theatre Festival, I’d watched countless introduction videos of actors at Mukesh Chhabra’s office. Most of them felt rehearsed, mechanical, almost robotic. They told you everything about the actor, except who they really were.
And that got me thinking. What’s the point of an introduction if there’s no life in it?

So I started experimenting. This particular video was shot minutes after waking up from an afternoon nap. No preparation, no rehearsals. Just me, half asleep, hitting record.

After countless days and weeks of attempts, this was the one where I finally felt the most comfortable.
Because what’s the point of mastering the art of acting if you forget the art of being?

Perhaps that’s the greatest paradox of acting. We spend years learning how to become someone else, only to realise that the greatest freedom lies in being ourselves.

And as my acting coach, Atul Mongia, used to tell me:
“Sometimes, the most powerful performance is the one where you’re not performing at all.”
