5 years ago today I lost my best buddy, Prancer. He died because I entrusted a family member to care for him for a short amount of time, and they neglected him. He became injured and sick and could not go on living that way. I’ll never forgive myself for leaving Prancer with that family member. I’ll never get over it. Some people might say, “He was just a cat!” But he was so much more than that. He was my soul cat - he was my best furry pal. And he was ripped away from me when I was trying so hard to get him back. I’ll never forgive myself. I’ll never forget him. I love you, Prance, and I hope you are resting in paradise. 🤍

Fun facts: Prancer loved Elton John and Madonna. He and I would listen to Madonna on long car rides to help him calm down. He loved watching Dog the Bounty Hunter, too. He was the BEST boy. There will never be another Prancer. by @aecianathome

The least Fall-ish Fall I’ve experienced in a while, tbh. But hey, at least we’ve still got okra. taken in The Ozarks by @aecianathome

It is October 7th and somehow the garden is still cranking out cherry tomatoes. These are Sun Gold. I got somewhere around 400 cherry tomatoes from my garden this year, and it doesn’t look like they’re done quite yet. 🍅 taken in The Ozarks by @aecianathome

Fall in the garden 🍁🍂

All of the spicy peppers have dropped their leaves for the season, but none of the sweet peppers got the message. Weird but cool. I’ve still got basil, green beans, tomatoes, banana & bell peppers, chard, cabbage, pineapple sage, lettuce, spinach, carrots and squash growing. (I don’t think the squash will produce fruit before the first frost.) Something ate all of my cauliflower, brussel sprouts and kale - the stuff I was most excited about. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Needless to say, I am already busy planning next season’s garden. taken in The Ozarks by @aecianathome

Today’s harvest in two pictures.

Several things I have learned from my first year gardening:

1. Mulch and shade cloth are your friends. Purchase them BEFORE you need them.

2. My garden is going to need to be about 20 times bigger next year if I want it to actually feed my family more than snacking tomatoes and pickles. For real. No exaggeration.

3. I am not smarter than nature. Nor am I smarter than aphids.

In other news, I can’t wait for it to cool down so that I can plant my fall garden!!! 🪏🪴 taken in The Ozarks by @aecianathome
