Sydney Marathon gets a proper Medal Monday recap.

Increasing running milage and intensity after transitioning from triathlon to running focused training landed me with a presumed* bone stress injury, so the race goal: have fun and hopefully not break a bone.

This was the most fun marathon, truly a party throughout!

Official time: 4:03:37. Thrilled to PR on a tough course (and low mileage training)! Could this have been sub-4? I think so. The pre-race porta situation was terrible. Not nearly enough and was a biohazard. People going in bushes. I nearly missed my start corral and had to make a pit stop at the first aid station. I slipped on a wet paper cup around mi 12 and tweaked my knee. I hobbled through the next mile and took descents slow the rest of the race.

I think I've finally figured out a good fueling strategy. This was the first race I didn't bonk. I finished feeling great. It took 30+ minutes standing in line to exit the park and even spent the rest of the day at the zoo.

Coming to Sydney has been a bucket list item since I was little, so crossing the finish line at the foot of the Opera House was a true "pinch me" moment. Grateful for the ability and opportunity to travel and do these races with my family by my side.

*I did not get an MRI to confirm a BSI. The treatment recommendation is to rest. Please follow your medical providers recommendations. I am a terrible patient. taken in Sydney by @aehopps

Over 50 days into 2026! Changed up training this round and celebrating 50 days of *consistent* strength training. If you haven't started yet, that's okay, let's get at it together!

The wise words of OK Go,
"Couldn't good, be good enough?
'Cause nothing ever doesn't change, but nothing changes much."

Motivation for a new training cycle by reflecting on the past season.

Medium and long distance triathlon training can be a selfish sport but also so rewarding. After 2 summers of being absent most weekends training for full distance IM my family was really missing me, so this year they were my training partners. Having their support throughout training, from my worst race ever (hello, Boulder 70.3), and finally to celebrate with me at Worlds means everything!

I'm filled with satisfaction, peace & closure with this training cycle and excited for the adventures 2026 racing season will bring.

Zurich 🤍

Such a vibe. Mastered the trains. Chocolate. Schnitzel & jugged beef. 24 hours was not enough (but also enough because $$$). Too early to see the Christmas lights in all their beauty, so I WILL be back. taken in Zürich, Switzerland by @aehopps

Gibraltar 💙

The cable cars up the rock were closed due to high winds which left us with the option to walk or take a van tour. Opted for the van (due to upcoming race) which was the best decision as we ended up with Lisa, who is the epitome of a Brit: hilarious, brash, and generous.

España 💛

Marbella > Tarifa > Sevilla > Ronda > Málaga

Thoroughly explored the architecture and landscapes of Western Andaluza and left with our belly's full of sangria, gelato & tapas, including the best Moroccan food I'll forever dream about. by @aehopps

Boulder 70.3 race recap:
Show up or blow up: Landed in the medical tent, so mission accomplished??

Altitude is no fun, my resting pulse ox 90%, HR 110. Possible SIPE (US completed in the med tent showed several kirley lines, but acceptable). Ope!

Swim: the water was surprisingly warm and nice, but felt like breathing through a straw. Overall still my favorite part of the day.

Bike: Operator error mechanical issues. Character builder.

Run: Woof. Too stubborn to quit (don't be like me).

Overall I was disappointed for 0.3 seconds. The hard, no good days are a reminder of why I do this and how lucky I am to do so. 🩷 taken in Boulder, Colorado by @aehopps

Take the moment and taste it / you've got no reason to be afraid

To my better half's encouragement and selling my soul, I made the last minute decision to get to this concert going solo. Living this life with zero regrets.

Thanks to ironman training, I'm still fit to stand for 5+ hrs 👍 by @aehopps

This moment will be on repeat in my head for a while.

I am absolutely thrilled with my result, including a massive PR from last year (15:21 > 13:34)! Could not have done it without my teammates this past year. As a bonus, I'm officially a bronze AWA!

Tomorrow I'll take on Ironman Wisconsin for the 2nd time. Taking a moment to reflect on some of the quieter from this training cycle that lead me to this race. Couldn't have done it without these people (and more that aren't pictured!). I can't wait to celebrate with you all on the course!! taken in Madison, Wisconsin by @aehopps
