Sardinia! We are roaming around the Gallura region and I'm in love! We went to the Galluras museum of regional life, and the local Tomb of the Giants. Not giants, as it turns out, but the Bronze Age Nugathe people! taken in Museo Galluras by @aeneiaa

A legend in this town said that a group of sailors prayed to the Virgin Mary to spare them in a storm. When they washed a shore, they made a chapel in her honour.

While it was always a common story there, one man in the late 1800s decided to make it real and over the course of 50 years, began to carve this chapel directly into the stone of the cave at the town. In time, he was succeeded by his son, after which carving stopped for many years. It fell into disrepair, until the grand nephew visited his families home town, and couldn't see the stare it was left it, and his two week holiday became his life times work.

The seaside town of Scilla, named for the fearsome ancient monster, a nymph who had two tails, and was flanked by dogs that ate sailors. 🧜‍♀️ (Let a girl have hobbies!!!)

Zungri & Castello Normanno-Swabian!

The cave town of Zungri was so fascinating, carved between the 6th-12th century by scillian refugees, they go down the mountainside, becoming more elaborate as they descend.

.... and you can definitely tell the stairs are that old, a little nerve wracking when it started raining on us, haha.

Then off to the Norman castle, which housed an archaeological museum, of local artefacts dating back to the bronze age Greeks.
