this is around the time i started playing around with layering colors. i’ve always deeply admired the great impressionist painters and wondered how they achieved such vibrancy in their colors. i decided to let go & go for an intuitive approach with my painting process ~ this is how it turned out c: by @aeralixe

A brightly colored study of my favorite fruit!
I have been wanting to acquire the skill of color theory my favorite impressionists use, and the way grapefruit catches the light caught my eye. by @aeralixe

I - Prelude (1/3)

Welcome to my new project! The following some quantity of posts will be a series of triptychs. Each is inspired by one of the five pieces in Poetry, a musical anthology composed by my wonderful and very cool friend (<3). I highly recommend you listen to some of the poems (and other compositions!) on his yt channel: https://youtube.com/channel/UC794maF1OIM1BhMZJRm2-NA .

This piece is inspired by Prelude, the first of the five poems. Although it is (sadly) unpublished, I hope I can convey the feeling of it: complex, disorienting, and hauntingly beautiful. The artwork is meant to capture a feeling of mystery and wonder and, in conjunction with my other works, is meant to provide a stark contrast by means of color. In essence, this piece is meant to represent the unknown.

As a side note, I really wanted to use green here, but was also equally terrified. It most likely did not help that I simultaneously used four different points of lighting in three different colors. This piece was very technically challenging and I am not sure I nailed it, so, because I chickened out I have provided a comfort slide in my typical color palette as the last image :)

*me drawing at 4am for four consecutive days*

Consider this filler to even out my feed structure before I launch into my next big project (very exciting!!) which will be a series of visual vignettes 👀

In terms of process, this piece was such a pain. I had the idea of bioluminescent jellyfish in mind, but putting together a cohesive scene that had the vibes I wanted proved to be very very difficult. Interesting idea, less interesting execution, unfortunately. by @aeralixe
