Anak Krakatau, Indonesia 🌋 — this volcano lost two thirds of itself in one night.

It rose from the sea in 1930 and grew to 338 m. One night in December 2018, the whole south-west flank slid into the ocean — over two thirds of the volcano, gone in minutes. The wave hit the coast 13 m high and killed more than 400 people. There was no warning: Indonesia’s tsunami system listens for earthquakes, and there was no earthquake.

What was left is 110 m tall. This week, it is erupting again.

From above, the missing flank is still there — a horseshoe open to the sea where a cone used to be.

Send this to the person who thinks volcanoes only go up. Save it for the next time Krakatoa is in the news.

The oldest stadium in college football is in the Ivy League.
Counting down the 5 oldest: Bobby Dodd 1913, Fitton Field 1908, Kyle Field 1904 (oldest in the SEC), Harvard Stadium 1903 — and Franklin Field, 1895.
Kyle Field started as 500 wooden seats a professor paid for out of his own pocket.
Tell me that’s the wrong order.
