Exhibited at the RA Summer Exhibition 2023
Part 1 Architecture Graduate from UoP

To commemorate and celebrate the life of David Hockney I thought I’d share my trip to the Turner Gallery in Margate, back in April.

To celebrate the gallery’s 15th anniversary, David Hockney’s Sunley Window focuses on the nature of light and the many ways its effects can be represented pictorially. Even on the cloudy, rainy day I visited, the light this window produced and feeling that I got from it will always resonate.

I have been to many of his exhibitions and seen an array of his work, whether that was at the @nationalportraitgallery where his infamous portrait of @harrystyles hung, as well as his exhibition at the @royalacademyarts back in 2016. To even myself studying him during my years at school, in Art.

Last week I started my first week of a 12 week Upholstery course, with the adult learning at @buckscouncil.

I honestly had the best time! I was a little nervous to begin with as I had never done anything like this before, however everyone was super welcoming and it felt like I had been there for weeks!

We began with taking apart an upholstered seat, in order to understand how to use some of the key upholstery tools. And then began to put it all back together again! As much as I want to start on my own piece, I am so happy we have done this; so I can make the mistakes now, rather than later!

I will be keeping a diary alongside posting on here, as I am much more of a visual learner. Plus it will allow me to look back on my work and progress within the course itself.

So I cannot wait to keep you all updated on my progress, new found skills and new found love for upholstery! 🪑 by @aes.works

What a fabulous visit to @alanmeasles A House for Essex. And one day I will be sure to stay and enjoy the interiors!!!

Through their love of decoration, ornament and the history of Essex, Charles Holland (FAT) and Grayson have designed a testament to the fictional character of Julie Cope, an every-woman of Essex.

The architecture interprets the traditions of Russian Stave churches, wayside chapels and roadside memorials. The house is clad in some two thousand handmade tiles; which along with the roof sculptures, have all been created from originals produced by Grayson.

With golden roof and windows increasing in size from front to back, the house extends and ‘grows’ across the sloping site.

- Completed 2014
- Footprint 148 sqm
- Plot – approximately 2 acres
- Blockwork and steel frame, with faience of cast terracotta tiles taken form original artwork produced by Grayson Perry
- Solid oak timber floors

A little 4 day trip to Seville back in February saw us first visiting Seville Cathedral and La Giralda Tower.

It is one of the largest churches in the world as well as the largest Gothic cathedral. It is also primarily known as the resting place of the Italian Explorer, Christopher Columbus.

Today I volunteered on a project for @fight4aylesbury. The project by Future Archaeology is to build an anti-demolition pavillion!!

The installation is to highlight and display the demolition and gentrification of London’s public housing. Funded by @antepavilion , the piece is based on the floor plan of Aysen Dennis’s former Aylesbury Estate flat, a longtime hub for political activism.

I was lucky enough to visit her flat a few years ago for an exhibition they held. So it was fab to see the structure forming in its own right before my eyes.

So if you have any spare time between now and 14th July (just under two weeks) do email Future Archeology at futurearcheology0@gmail.com to see how you can get involved!

I will be back for a few more days in the next couple of weeks so keep an eye out for the progress on the site 😊

On Saturday I took a trip to Sheffield to visit the Park Hill Estate. I have been wanting to visit the estate ever since I started my dissertation back in 2020! A very exciting visit and I cannot wait to visit again very soon and hopefully go on one of their tours!

Celebrating the New Year saw me visiting Portsmouth and seeing the new sea defences for the second time. Photographed is 1 of the 6 phases by @southseacoastalscheme , Long Curtain Moat. This was the first area completed as part of the Southsea Coastal Scheme.

The Scheme is the UK’s largest local authority-led coastal defences projects, worth more than £180M. Streching from Old Portsmouth to Eastney, it will reduce the risk of flooding to more than 10,000 homes and 700 businesses.

Since 2019 I have walked along this entire coastal front noticing the damage that the sea can do. So to now see its new development is phenomenal and knowing that someone I know played an input into this is very meaningful.

Yesterday I got the all important email informing me when the applications open for the Summer Exhibition 2025 @royalacademyarts !!!

And it got me reminiscing back to the summer of 2023 when I saw my own artwork on their prestigious walls!

I realised I never actually got round to posting this segment from @bbctheoneshow with @mattallwright, so here it is! It still gets me very emotional watching it back, even a year and half on!
