I knew it was a good day before I even got home. Not because everything went perfectly, but because everyone was just there. Present, kind to each other and to me. The kind of ease that you cannot manufacture or plan for, it either exists or it does not.

That ease shows up in the photos whether you are looking for it or not. You cannot fake a relaxed wedding day, but you can create one. And they did.

I had my brother (reverend @drebuado for now haha) officiate our little ceremony in Yosemite. I told him I didn’t want a video and to just enjoy it with us. He sent me this edit that caught me off guard and captured it beautifully we can’t stop watching it. Even if it was short it took us back to that very moment. So thank you brother I love you!

L+C at Joshua Tree.

We started the day in casual clothes and spent the first stretch talking about life. Somewhere in that conversation the session started on its own, and toward sunset they changed into something formal. They were up for anything, and wherever we stopped, they were themselves.

We picked spots away from the busy areas, so it was mostly just the two of them. I always enjoy shooting at parks like this. There’s so much beautiful space to work with, and I like exploring as we go.

I always wonder what’s actually going through their head in this exact moment.

I think I know, because I felt something like it myself when I got married. That walk where everything around you goes blurry and unrecognizable, even something as massive as this bell disappears, and all that’s left is the person waiting for you.

But I also don’t really know. We all feel it differently. That’s what makes this moment so hard to fake and so easy to recognize the second it’s real.

Olivia + Colin.

Twelve people at the Santa Barbara Courthouse. Their dog as ring bearer. No shot list, no specific requests. They just trusted me to document the day as it happened.

You could feel the love in that room. Not just between the two of them. Between everyone there.

We ended at the beach nearby. After a stretch of full day weddings, a day this small was a good reset.

Paige + Andrew.

I remember talking to Paige during our first call. 15 minutes turned into 30, then a little over an hour. We stopped talking about photography pretty quickly. It became more like catching up with someone I had known for a while. She told me about her and Andrew, about life, about how she wanted the day to feel. Not how she wanted it to look. How she wanted it to feel.

She painted a picture for me. Her point of view. Her and Andrew just enjoying their day while I stayed out of the way and paid attention.

When I met them for the first time it felt like I already had. I know that sounds like something people say, but I mean it. That is what I work toward at the very beginning of every relationship with a client. That moment where they forget I am there to photograph and just let me be a witness.

I am passionate about photography. But I am more passionate about people. About making something that helps them remember what it actually felt like, not just what it looked like.

Paige and Andrew are a reminder of why I will not stop. Weddings, families, my own family. Anything, anywhere. Making art from it. Doing it for myself and no one else.

I finally feel free.

Krystina and Carlo.

We did their engagement session a while back and it never really felt like a shoot. More like hanging out with two people who happened to let me bring a camera.

That carried into the wedding day. They trusted me completely which meant they never had to think about the photos. Just the day. Just each other. Just the people around them.

That trust is everything. It is when the photos stop being photos and start being something else. Something that actually looks like the people in them.

I think about that a lot. How much of this job is just showing up calm and letting people feel like they can forget I am there.

Maybe it is the soft voice. Maybe it is just time. Either way I am grateful for it.

T + R on film.

They skipped the first look. Just stayed together from the start, which meant by the time the ceremony happened it did not feel like a reveal. It felt like a continuation.

The venue has not been touched in years. Shooting it on film made sense. It already looked like a memory.

The wedding that fairies dream about! Twinkling lights, fountains, getting ready in little cottages, intentionally placed floral arrangements and making lifelong promises while tucked away in tree-shaded alcoves. Bubbles and light sticks for a perfect sendoff. So magical and unforgettable!
