How do Pixar crowds look so realistic? 🤔🎬

The key, according to Crowds Technical Director @aeyoqen, is incorporating the things that make us unique and diverse. By adding in background characters using things like ASL or mobility devices, Pixar creates crowds that reflect the real world.

Could you come up with ways to improve mobility for your favorite movie characters, or people in your life? Check out Psy DeLacy’s STEAM Star episode to learn how!

#dragoncon2025 was a blast. We got to see old friends, make new ones, and spend a week surrounded by some of the best humans.

The very first DragonCon that @rey_atlanta did with us, we went to get some photos - this year, one of the awesome people at the same booth came out to the floor to ask if we wanted our photos taken (thank you, Chris, you made our day), so it feels like we came full circle.

They had me jump in for the last photo, which was entirely unexpected, but I'm so glad we got this photo taken together!

Elio is incredibly special to me. I spent 934 days working on the film, and much of that time was dedicated to the crowds of unique aliens that populate the Communiverse. They are all, in a way, my weird children, and I fell in love with them so much I made 3D printed and plush versions of a few of them that were given out as gifts to my team (the best team ever, I cannot stress enough).

If you look closely, you might catch a baby Auva or Alya as Elio flies through the Communiverse...

I have so many good memories of Celebration, but the most special one for me was getting to meet Picke, Ino, and Kumi of #teamdroidlab.

A pretty amazing BB-8 cosplay was how I met Picke a few years ago, and when I went to see if she had more photos I saw an incredibly well built BB-8! We got to talking a bit over Instagram, and I learned that she and her friend, Ino, were working together to build BB-8, which is a very familiar story.

When I found out Celebration was going to be in Tokyo, I was absolutely stoked, and I hoped we would all get to meet. And we did! To say it was like a dream is an understatement - we got to all hang out together for a bit at Celebration and just talk. We have the same philosophies, and are trying to solve the same problems in droid building, and it was a pretty awesome coincidence. I think we used the word "doppelganger" more than once :D

The time went way too fast, but I treasured every minute of it. Now I have wonderful friends that I can't wait to see when I return to Japan, and I am hoping they will come and visit (and also come to Celebration Los Angeles). I can't express my happiness and gratitude enough 🧡

@botbuilderdave was operating Gil, and I had about 30 seconds before I had to run back and voice Cooki, but one of these days we'll get a photo with all of us in it.

Love these guys with all of my heart 🧡

It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of such an incredible team, and this photo only represents about half of us! #swcj was a dream - getting to be in a place I love, with people I love, doing what I love...I'll never take any of it for granted.

I had seen every video of these little droids that I could find, but seeing them in person was a different experience entirely. It's obvious how much love and care the team behind these droids put into them, and the fidelity of control and character performance is amazing.

I can't wait to see what is coming next in the world of character robotics.

Eight years, and every day is still just as magical as the first. I'll never take it for granted.

It was not only an absolute joy to finally meet @drscifi's BD-6 in person, but I'm also incredibly grateful that I had the honor to operate this little duo. I received a few driving lessons during my whirlwind weekend at @comicconla, but definitely still need a lot more stick time to get the hang of it!
