TAKE ME HIGHER (4 am)
acrylic & oil on canvas
36x48”

This painting is the first in a new collection, and I wanted to share it specifically for suicide prevention month. Personally struggling with depression and having people close to me deal with it as well gave me purpose in creating this piece.

There are times that the only solution seems to be to escape. But it is not true— there is always more than one way forward. And we always hold the opportunity to try again, to choose to open our minds to new solutions, to find a pathway out of our pain, and to choose growth— by any means necessary.

If you are struggling right now, know that time can heal, darkness can pass, and the sun will rise again tomorrow.

If you or someone you know is struggling call or text 988 to reach the suicide & crisis lifeline.

thank you for being here & sending love🙏🏼♥️ taken in Manhattan, New York by @af.art

Exhibition Highlight: “Anna Frants: Metamorphosis” at Gallery MC, Hell’s Kitchen

Anna Frants is a figurative painter I met by chance earlier in the Spring at TIME TO BE HAPPY Gallery on the Bowery. I was there visiting another great artist when I happened to spot Anna out of the corner of my eye dutifully working on an exceptional figurative portrait. We got to talking and hit it off in an instant, which made it all the more special upon being invited to her solo exhibition at Gallery MC.

As a kind of young career retrospective, I was able to appreciate the full sweep of Anna’s painting practice from the start of her career to her latest projects. Beginning with a fragmentary figuration leading up to her current work in high figurative realism, the human figure has been a staple of Anna’s art. One can look at her work and detect an inherent curiosity the artist feels when thinking about what it means to be a person. Some compositions offer idealized representations akin to historic saintly portraits while others capture the inner aura of a person.

In some of her most recent paintings, Anna not only portrays the exterior of a person, but also their interior … and yes, at its most anatomical form. Any kind of portrayal of écorché - representations of a figure without its skin - is almost always done with a scientific inquiry in mind, yet Anna’s écorché subjects still wield that perpetually youthful soulfulness found in her skin-clung subjects (although it should be mentioned that much of her understanding of human physiognomy comes from a time when she worked in a cadaver lab - practically a 17th Century art education at this point!).

Congratulations again to Anna for her brilliant show and thank you again for inviting me!

THE OTHER SIDE
oil and acrylic on canvas
70 x 68 in.
2026

voice memo from mile 12 of one of my training runs on by the Hudson River on 9/17/25

what’s waiting for us on THE OTHER SIDE?
of our pain? our doubt? our fear?

when every emotion comes to the surface and we are faced with the choice:

to sink or to fight.

we can never know when, where, or how the fruits of our labor will come. but we have to be trusting and willing enough to have the faith that they will.

maybe we don’t need to know what’s waiting for us on the other side—

maybe we just have to be brave enough to put one foot in front of the other to get one step closer to finding out

LIMITLESS
oil and acrylic on canvas
48 x 60 in.
2025

The piece that started this entire collection, THE OTHER SIDE.

I started this painting when I was training for my first official marathon last September. On days when I felt doubtful or hopeless, I would listen to Eliud Kipchoge’s interviews. I would force myself to go running and get out of the low mental space I felt so trapped in.

He is an incredible source of inspiration. He exemplifies that on the quest for greatness, success should not be expected through luck but from focused, specific, and consistent preparation & intention.

I brought this painting to the NYC marathon this past November and right after I saw Eliud run by, I ran 2 miles —with the painting in hand— to the pop-up of Eliud’s new running app, Kotcha. I met with his team and vocalized my dream and intention to show Eliud the painting I made in person. Although this goal was not possible when he was in the city this November, I still have hope I will be able to show him the painting one day.

@nike @nikerunning can you help me make this happen? 👀❤️

ALL FOR YOU (to Lucia)
oil and acrylic on canvas
48 x 60 in.
2026

A portrait of one of my best friends @hannnahhg who is currently 9 months pregnant. Hannah has demonstrated incredible strength and power as we have watched her grow into this new chapter of life with our little bestie to be— Lucia.

What a magical process of creation this is. Hannah you are a display of resilience, hope, and beauty and I can’t wait for Lucia to be brought into the world under your care & influence. Thank you for being the source of inspiration for this piece; so much love for you.
