NOW ON VIEW | Hervé Yamguen
Nos géographies intimes | through October 31st

On the occasion of his second solo exhibition at AFIKARIS gallery, Hervé Yamguen presents “Nos géographies intimes” (Our Intimate Geographies), a body of drawings, paintings, bronze sculptures, and wooden masks that extends a central reflection in his work: that of the visible and invisible forces involved in shaping who we are and the way we inhabit the world.

The exhibition emerges from a question that is at once intimate and universal: what are we made of? For Hervé Yamguen, a human being can never be reduced to what the eye can perceive. Each of us carries within us landscapes, memories, wounds and dreams. The places we have passed through remain within us, as do family histories, singular experiences and collective upheavals that often silently shape the way we perceive reality. Identity thus appears as a shifting cartography, made up of layers and correspondences, where the intimate resonates with what surrounds it.

Salifou Lindou is part of the group exhibition “Africa Legacy” currently presented at Espace Vanderborght in Brussels, through 1 November, 2026.

In “Politiciens 73”, (2024) the white silhouettes emerging against the black canvas mark a turning point in Lindou’s emblematic series, begun in 2020.

More cinematic than ever, the work evokes the language of silent cinema, recalling the expressive gestures of Charlie Chaplin. Nothing can be heard, yet the figures seem to speak. Their gestures suggest exchanges, debates and promises, giving voice to what remains unspoken. Yet beneath this apparent dialogue lies a tension between words and action. The figures speak but remain suspended in the same silent space. Their eloquence becomes almost theatrical, raising the question of what remains when words do not translate into action—and of those who are left waiting beyond the scene.

The duality of human beings is at the heart of the artist’s practice: between strength and weakness, immobility and movement, peace and chaos, promise and action.

Ozioma Onuzulike is part of the exhibition “Clay Has Memory: Creative Lineages from Africa” presented at @princetonuniversityartmuseum until July 3, 2027 and curated by @perrinlathrop.

•

This exhibition examines the ways in which African and African Diasporic artists use clay to sustain creative legacies from Africa. The exhibition brings together works by historical, modern, and contemporary artists who draw on and preserve intergenerational knowledge through their practices. Referencing the long history of ceramics in Africa, these artists harness the potential of craft traditions and the vitality of clay to establish new relationships to place and shared histories.

•

A ceramic artist and poet, Onuzulike’s work largely focuses on the historical and sociological roots of the political and socio-economic turmoil in Africa and their debilitating effects on daily living on the continent. He often explores the aesthetic, symbolic and metaphorical nature of clay (his basic material) and the clay-working processes – pounding, crushing, hammering, wedging, grinding, cutting, pinching, punching, perforating, burning, firing – in his making of the multiple units that characterise his mixed-media projects.

Exhibited artists:
Ozioma Onuzulike
El Anatsui
Magdalene Odundo
Ladi Dosei Kwali
Adebunmi Gbadebo
Theaster Gates
Zizipho Poswa
Leilah Babirye
Kwabena Ampofo-Anti
