It's graduation day for 3/4 of us!! congrats to @baronfenwick @aidan.gold @dominicplaysbass for ascending to doctorhood (meanwhile @purrakami is old) 🎓✨ we also wanted to share that we had a wonderful season and although we aren't concertizing/teaching as a group anymore, the spirit of AFK is alive and well and we are looking forward to sharing and spreading ludic pieces and resources wherever we go!! we are so grateful for our time together here at @juilliardschool 🥰🫶🏼 by @afkcontemporary

oh, you thought we were done? not. without. the. MINIDOC!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😈😤🤪🤯🫡 one of our goals this season was to document/archive our activities so that other musicians can learn more about ludic pieces and all the fun stuff we love to do. and nbd, our fearless @aidan.gold just happens to be a 🐐 video editor‼️‼️ (no kidding, we have no idea how he did this) so enjoy this lil teasery trailery bit and check out the entire vid on our website!

and with that, afk is out for the summer! LOVE YALL! ☀️ by @afkcontemporary

our last workshop of the season- what a joy to work with the totally awesome contemporary performance program @tactus.msm at @msm.nyc!! 🤯💡💥 a 2-hour smorgasbord of lecture/discussion, demos and group activities, and even a micro-hackathon where students brainstormed plans for ludic pieces. SO fun, and thank you to everyone at the program for sharing your thoughts and artistry! 🫶🏼 by @afkcontemporary

we are still ✨glowing✨ from our 🌷spring show🌷 last friday! thank you to our lovely community who not only showed up but participated in multiple interactive pieces- we had a blast and we hope you did too!! a huge thank you to our composers @sofia_ouyang and isaac thomas, and to @tenriculturalinstitute for being the most gracious hosts 🪽

as AFK winds down for the season we just want to extend our gratitude to everyone who has followed and supported us for this crazy first year! we could not do it with you and we hope to keep bringing the joy of ludic pieces to the repertoire 💞 by @afkcontemporary

🔜🔜🔜ALL HANDS ON DECK for AFK's spring show!!! this is gonna be a fun one: a night of almost all premieres, including "Build-A-World," a beautifully woven new work written for us by our incredible spring commissionee @sofia_ouyang, and not 1 not 2 but THREEEEEEEE (3) audience-participation works: a co-op game between us and our audience, a choose-your-own-adventure piece by @aidan.gold, and an ear training game by Isaac Thomas (are you good at dictation? prove it and beat us!) 😈

it's going down friday, april 11 at 7 PM at @tenriculturalinstitute, and we would love to have your presence there (and your participation too, if that's your jam)!! admission ofc is free! ⚠️⚠️ IF U WANNA PARTICIPATE: make sure to RSVP via partiful at the link in bio, so we can get u prepped for shenanigans. 🆗❓ by @afkcontemporary

happy 🐪 day! today we went across the street and had so much fun bringing our workshop to @laguardia.arts ❤️🤍🎶 we are enormously grateful for the warm reception and the enthusiasm of the students to improvise with us in some conduction! there is truly nothing more affirming than working with young musicians bursting with life, energy, and the desire to collaborate+create 🥹

if your school or program might be interested in a play and improv-based workshop we wanna hear from you!!! 🤟🏼 by @afkcontemporary

Scenes from the stand 🎵 we were SO amazed, inspired, and brought to much laughter reading ludic pieces written by the incredible young composers of the @nyyouthsymphony Composition program! Thank you to Isaac, Michael, Naamia, and Sophia for having us (in order) test each other with dictations, spin the wheel to build melodies, play sardines (with punishments), and improvise just crazily enough. Thank you Director @kyleblaha for this collab. We had a blast!!!! 🤩💥💫 by @afkcontemporary

🎊🎉🪩🪄📯happy new year from AFK!!!✨✨✨ from the opposite coast (gab's old stomping grounds), to korean saunas, to the ski slopes, to the pacific NW (folding insane origami)- wishing all a joyous year and a fruitful spring season to come 🍊 by @afkcontemporary

🪩🎊🕺🏼last saturday we had a BLAST at our fall show and were lucky enough to be surrounded by our community of friends, peers, mentors, and students, and to be joined by star collaborators @ao0_bcl._, @kerrithl, @brianellissound 🌟🌟🌟 it was a wild ride (starting with a ceiling leak and extreme tech wrangling- thank you @klavierhaus for the multifaceted support!) but we're not snoo💤ing too hard yet... spring shenanigans on the horizon🌱 by @afkcontemporary

🌟💫TOMORROW!!✨✨✨ we're having our fun! free! fall show!!!! 7 pm at @klavierhaus! we'll be premiering Wishbowl, a commission from @kerrithl that is quite literally our hopes and dreams (and a little hide and seek). be there!!!!! 🛌💭🌙 by @afkcontemporary
