Hey yal, I’m back at it😎

Working on a lil project with my client, @popoca.oakland, and it’s feeling good to be back home in Oakland!

I’m working on a Leadership Workshop that will debut before the end of the year. If you are currently in a leadership role or your intention is to become a leader in hospitality, drop LEADER in the comments below👇🏽so I can add you to the invite list. More details to come!

Lots of change on the horizon for A-Frame Hospitality, but for now, just remember this as you head into your weekend…

You are LIMITLESS! 😉

Still feeling the flames 🥵 of an EPIC Staff Party planned by none other than @slick_nik for @sunsetbeachhotel 🌅💛🧡❤️😎

This team has worked their buns off in heat, wind, rain, humidity—conditions you might not expect from working in hospitality and service. They’ve done it with smiles on their faces, pep in their step, swagger and grace! They deserved nothing but the best to remember and close out a fun and ever changing season.

Thank you all for your ability to be flexible and adapt in a a moment’s notice 🙏🏽 We see you and how bright you shine and glow ✨✨✨

It’s been an honor and pleasure to work alongside you all. I’ve got one week to go, and I hope we all MAKE IT COUNT! Don’t let any minute be wasted. Don’t let the little stuff irritate you. Find the little joys in your day. Get curious about our guests, each other, and yourself. Keep your head UP, and cherish every moment like it’s our last! Let’s finish strong 💪🏽 Team Sunset.

It takes a village…

🙋🏻‍♂️👩🏻‍🐰‍👩🏽👩🏻‍🤝‍👨🏽👭🏻💃🏻🕺🏽👭🏻🧍🏻🦸🏻‍♀️👸🏽👩🏻‍🎨👨🏻‍🌾🧑🏼‍🍳👩‍🎤💁🏻‍♀️

Indeed, it does take a village to raise a child, a vision, a restaurant and a home! Today marks three years of my dear friend and former’s client’s anniversary of @popoca.oakland!

I LOVE building and collaborating with my clients, but la alma—the soul that Popoca has is like none other. It’s vibrant just like the flames that are seen in the hearth, it’s magnetic and exciting like all the drinks you sip on, #it’s energetic and nourishing like the food served at the table, and it’s unforgettable like the people that are passionate about hospitality and service that take care of you as soon as you enter the doors. La alma is what brings everyone back!

When it comes to culture, @popoca.oakland has maintained its vibe over the years and that’s all due to the consistent, compassionate, and cognizant leadership from @anthony_salguero. Cheers to you, my friend 🍾🥂✨ I know the path wasn’t always glamorous, but you held strong. It’s been such a pleasure and honor to watch you and your team evolve over the years 😍🤩🥹 So very proud of you all! 👏🏽👏🏽Keep doing what you’re doing.

💛💛💛

Here is a behind the scenes look at the making of @popoca.oakland and how the village built it all! We couldn’t have done it without the team, our families and friends. Truly grateful for all the hands, support and love! Here’s to many, many more years to come🥂🥂Can’t wait to come and visit next month 🤗

❤️‍🔥Que tu alma siga elevándose❤️‍🔥

Feliz tres años 🥳💃🏻🕺🏽🍾🥂💛

* COLLABORATION *

Just a couple days ago we had a fun filled, jam packed, groovy, and awesome day @sunsetbeachhotel! Our Captain @moni_cabralny and our Server @sup_itsyvonne led the team for a field day on The Beach. It was a time to be brave and courageous on the water for fast boat rides and water sports that were exhilarating! Also, a time for relaxation and bonding over snacks, libations, and an amazing bonfire. They organized a plethora of games that brought up laughter and our competitive sides! We saw teamwork in full effect 😍🤩🤓 The day ended with the incredible efforts of so many of the team’s hard work during the day to carve out a huge bonfire for all to enjoy s’mores and time together.

It was a day of *COLLABORATION* 👩🏽‍🐰‍👩🏾🧑🏻‍🐰‍🧑🏼👨🏻‍🐰‍👨🏽

Collaboration is our second value @aframehospitality We collaborate with our clients that open an re-open restaurants. It’s a matter of giving and receiving, getting creative, “surfing through each other’s brains” as @moni_cabralny puts it! It’s about listening, communicating, and finding alignment. It was a pleasure and honor to see our teammates take the lead and host an extraordinary day! Teamwork is all about collaboration and doesn’t only have to happen when the doors are open for business and we’re on stage, but it can happen on our days off too and allow for time and space to have FUN!

Thank you @moni_cabralny and @sup_itsyvonne for collaborating, hosting, and giving your time and energy for us all to have a good day. 🙏🏽🙏🏽 We see you, and appreciate you!! This day will be one for the books, indeed.

A year ago today…

I opened a restaurant on the corner of Gough and Ivy in Hayes Valley, San Francisco with my client @chefjamesparry and @thehappycranesf. I still remember back in July 2023 discussing Jame’s vision for the restaurant, what it would look like, feel like, the culture we believed we could build together. He spoke about how he wanted to represent his roots and heritage in his own unique way with influences from all kitchens he’s been in. We knew it would be a long process to get there but that foundation of hearing his mission, vision and what values he wanted to hold were the pillars for what would open up to our community on August 8, 2025. It was purely intentional, that particularly opening date, as 8.8 represents abundance, good fortune, and prosperity in Chinese culture. It took a village to open the doors, and will take a village to raise it!

Thank you to @jaedinmarkuscellars for your dedication, expertise, and leadership to bring a team together and learn on the fly. Thank you @umamiboy for your passion, creative eye, and positivity. Thank you to all that supported this venture from investors, to collaborators, the Hayes Valley neighbors, family & friends. Thank you @chefjamesparry for trusting in me to support you and your mission, I am proud of you 👏🏽 👏🏽👏🏽

To the opening team of THC, no matter whether some of you have moved on to other projects or avenues in your career or some are still growing within, we could not have done it without you! Thank you for your efforts, long days, being open and curious, for believing in Chef James and I, and imagining what could be. I hope the values of authenticity, integrity and compassion live on. Thank you for dreaming with us and building something so beautiful. Cheers to all of you and your success! 🥂

Wish I was there to celebrate with you all and see you take flight again…

Imagine this… ✨✨✨

Eight service areas (six dining rooms, and two bars) for one restaurant and a vicious storm hits right at 10pm. The kitchen is just about to get final orders in to wrap up the night. Bars start to fill up for the late night crowds. All but two of the dining rooms are covered and protected from the storm. The splendor of Sunset Beach is that it is an outdoor property right across from the beach with epic sunsets as the name suggests. That splendor is also the tricky challenge when it comes to rain and conducting service for upwards of 1,000 guests per day. A sandbox, wine garden, and a top deck with amazing views become areas where guests have to run for cover when Mother Nature wants to pour her precious gifts down on us.

Without a team meeting, an action plan, or even the time to make non-verbal eye contact before the eye of the storm, the entire team was guest focused and solution oriented on that sparkly July 4th night. Our leadership team’s focus was on the team and their safety. It was a miraculous event to witness and be a part of. The amount of collaboration, communication, and pure will to deliver excellent hospitality, diffuse guests to appropriate areas, and remain calm and collected was beyond impressive.

I’ve said it before and no discredit to any of the other teams I’ve had the honor to work with or even observe, this team is really the GOAT! They come from all different backgrounds and experience levels from all over the world. Some are veterans and some are learning on the fly. The minute they arrive to Sunset Beach, they are fully present, ready, willing and able to deliver exceptional hospitality, and lead extraordinary experiences. It’s an honor and a privilege to be in line with them.

Cheers to you, Team Sunset! I’ve got about 30 days left with you. Looking forward to more laughter, love, dancing, and all that beautiful chaos 😉🌅😎

One of the things I love about being in hospitality is witnessing the magic that happens when our teams work together to build an unforgettable experience for our guests.

Before all the magic ensues, first there is a vision. Imagery, colors, textures, pathways, and even feelings blended together on a blank canvas. This roadmap leads to a plethora of possibilities that may endure once the music and lights turn on before the curtain rises and you add the cast of characters (the team) and finally the audience (our guests).

Here is a behind the scenes look our stage at the restaurant @sunsetbeachhotel I can still hear the subtle hum and feel the vibrant energy amongst the stillness before service, before the team arrives, and before doors open. This is only part of the vision that leads to what is yet to come.

If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to travel a ton for work, here’s the inside scoop from a hospitality consultant that opens restaurants, hotels, and wineries…

Cats out of the bag! I’m heading to @sunsetbeachhotel for Season 3 🌅If you haven’t been to Sunset Beach, all I can say is you need to experience it! ;) ;) I am excited to see friends & colleagues on the island again, and be a part of the F&B Team this season 🤗

On the other hand, I’m sitting with a bit of sadness around leaving my community, my home, my family and chosen family. The decision around this opportunity was met with quite a few challenges this season. One that I can share is the fact that I’m a 41-year old single woman in the Bay Area dating intentionally to find a partner. Yes. I just said that. I met a wonderful man recently and was told that long distance wasn’t for him. I get it at this age. I know other single friends in the industry that also travel constantly for work and I wonder their thoughts on their work and the demands of their roles?🤔🤔

Amongst other factors, leaving my home and community is harder this time around. I am a believer that home is not necessarily a place, but a feeling and NY has been a home of mine so I know this opportunity will help remind me who I am, where I’m from, and what I’m capable of. I am acknowledging as I grow older that my health, comfort & safety are top priorities. So as I head out, I am admitting that although I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity, I’m a bit sad this season and it’s ok for both emotions to exist simultaneously.

This sums up a lot of my work actually. It’s a combination of emotions. As a hospitality consultant that focuses on openings, I build concepts with creators, go full steam ahead, and then it ends just like that. It’s the beauty and challenge of my work.

Stay tuned for all the happenings this summer on Shelter Island and I’ll see you at the Beach 😎

* COMMUNITY *

One of my personal values as well as a value of A-Frame has always been, community. I believe we’re not meant to do life alone. We’re here to learn from, support, teach, share, and experience with one another.

I had the incredible honor to be a guest alongside some friends, peers, chefs & business owners @thebarefootedchef @thehappycranesf @brandoj @valmcantu @richtable @souvla @aliciacheungdesign this past weekend thanks to @thenilesproject. We were the final seating for Chefs Clint & Yoko’s @noodleinhaystack before the official closure. It was bittersweet as the food and experience was simply amazing yet this was the last of NIAH as we all know it. The heart and soul was definitely poured into every dish, bowl, and glass. I understand now why there was still a 10,000+ waiting list to experience this magic!

The financial aspect of what we do to build, open, and sustain restaurants doesn’t get discussed enough. It may seem glamorous from the outside looking in. Labor costs, rent, rising food costs in our current economy, unexpected setbacks like city fees, broken equipment or building maintenance are all things we have to manage (mentally and emotionally.) Clint and Yoko have led this operation on their own and have played the roles in all sides of the house from dishwasher & chef to host & server. It’s a labor of love. There are ways to make it all work, but its not always easy and it comes with tough decisions and potential sacrifices around different elements of the business.

All is not lost here though. The couple has plans for more later this year with their new concept @maze_by_niah on the horizon! There’s still more magic and gifts that Clint & Yoko have to share with our SF Bay Area community. To that, we cheers to them and say, KEEP GOING!

I am so grateful I had the chance to take a seat at your table. Arigato 🙏🏽🙏🏽
