this custom @afrasia piece carries my two worlds🇰🇷🇿🇦

Our Korean heritage (Hanbok) and South African (@mohairsouthafrica) craft, brought together in one piece🪷

I’m so deeply grateful to YunYoung for creating something this intentional, this beautiful❤️
This was for us, Koreans living in South Africa, growing, becoming, and blossoming like a lotus 🪷❤️

My second moodboard about self, my roots and aspirations as a fashion designer 🤍
“Blossoming” (2024) 🌺
Ouf im living my dream!! Grateful to the Most High, Jesus Christ 🦋 this is just the beginning 🌱

(This song for me isn’t addressing “haters”/“toxic people”, we all have traits of toxicity. It’s to the parts of me/ voices in my head that don’t help me serve God’s purpose in my life. The enemy wants to divide & destroy whether it’s between people or people and their dreams, but that is not my portion. & although seemingly paradoxical, it’s also a reminder to befriend the shadow self as it is not my enemy. It’s the vulnerable self that the devil aims to attack the most. The parts kept hidden, through expression I ask them come to light so that they may guide me. Closer to God, closer to God’s divine vision for my life. For my shadow self has been one of my greatest teachers and pivoting point. & at times when that is all too much? Keep it simple. Just focus on God. ) by @afrasia

Gotta testify. No sleep, bruised knees, sore fingers, sore back but maaaaan im 4eva grateful to live this God breathed dream 🌬️🦋 in the making of look 3 by @afrasia

🖤 Colossians 3:23-24 🧱 by @afrasia

For a class assignment, I explored my dream garment which is something that blends traditional & cultural elements with a contemporary twist. My choice was this stunning Miss Sohee piece from her SS25 collection, a haute couture gown in a HanBok silhouette.
The pistachio green organza silk embodies a sense of freshness, softness, elegance and confidence while the black Chantilly lace & sheer pants exude charm with a rebellious edge.
Fashion tells a story, one of self-expression, heritage, identity, and empowerment. I loved reflecting on the garments I envision myself wearing and the kind of designs I aspire to create. Fashion design is an opportunity for me to tell stories of feminine resilience, confidence, elegance and the beauty in ever-evolving/intersecting culture & heritage. ✨💚

보자기 BoJaGi is a popular korean textile making technique. Not only is it a master craft that represents Korean culture but it is also an innovative heritage technique created by women who did not have much back then. This affirms to me that historically, across the globe, up-cycling/recycling has always been a part of peoples creative language before the terms modern popularisation.

What distinguishes 보자기 BoJaGi from quilting, is that there is no pattern and is a purely intuitive art and craft form, piecing together one fabric shape at a time.

• The first BoJaGi piece is a winter one due to the heavy silks used (silks were used more for royalty. Fabrics used included(s) ramie, hemp, cotton, light & heavy silks)
• Colour schemes also depended on the season and occasion
• North Korea currently has more modern techniques and styles including natural dyeing by @afrasia

The heart of Soul Structure:
기도하고 약속해 a prayer & a promise

Designed for those who move alongside heritage, this piece is a dedication to men of diaspora & immigrants who work hard to be where they are.
It symbolises a clothing place of rest & presence.
Tailoring that breathes.
A stepping into a season of light and of ease. by @afrasia

My first moodboard for our first term skirt collection. I was thinking about moments of quiet reflection, feelings of grief/sadness, the ocean/water as a healing space, the moon cycles and its connection to menstrual cycles, celestial connections flowing through women, the night sky, the moon, the ocean, the womb…I think i still need to dig deeper to give a clear description but thats where I started. 💙❤️ by @afrasia

• The last slide was for a time bound test we did with textural rubbings as garment inspiration! I rubbed…..?.. the little light switch screws (the earrings), my tatami carpet for the dress and the electricity danger sign for the harry potter arrows 😆.
• Also the face drawings are inspired by @jadegita ‘s & @jo.yeoh ‘s beautiful faces!! 🙊🙊🙊🤍🦋
….•the 9head figure drawing method…is it..is it giving eugenics? 🥲🥲🥲🥲 im just thinking of this now by @afrasia
