At the #G20 Ministerial meeting at #UNGA81, we spoke about partnership and shared responsibility for #HealthSecurity.

Together with our partners, we mobilised US$2.9 billion for the Ebola response. Thank you to everyone who stood with Africa and the DRC. Now the work continues: turning these commitments into support for the communities affected.

Border closures don’t stop outbreaks. They push people onto routes we can’t see.

At the Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting on #Ebola, Africa CDC DG Dr Jean Kaseya urged Ministers to keep borders open and invest in preparedness, under one government-led national plan.

With @who , we’re tracking response funding so every government knows what it gets. by @africacdc

Five months since Ebola was declared in the DRC, one question drives us forward: what have we learned, and how can we act smarter and faster?

From 29 to 31 October, Kisangani became a hub of collaboration and reflection during the Intra-Action Review of the #EbolaResponse. For three days, frontline heroes, government leaders, and partners came together to share lessons, challenge the status quo, and identify urgent priorities.

Africa CDC stands shoulder to shoulder with the Government of the DRC and all partners, committed to a response that is faster, more coordinated, and deeply rooted in the needs of our communities. by @africacdc

Community health workers are the first line of Africa's health security, and the last mile of its health systems.

In a new op-ed for Devex, Africa CDC Director General H.E. Dr Jean Kaseya and H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former President of Liberia, set out what it takes to make community health a permanent public institution: domestic financing, fair pay, career pathways and partner support routed through government systems.

Every dollar invested in the health workforce can return up to $19 to the economy. Africa CDC will continue to work with Member States and partners to turn that return into lasting, nationally owned programmes.

Africa spends $40–50B a year on health products. Our manufacturers need a market they can count on.

In nine months, our pooled procurement has prequalified 89 African manufacturers from 14 countries and signed MoUs with 8 Member States.

No health sovereignty without #SupplySecurity.

🇰🇪 Preparedness isn’t a plan on paper. It’s what happens in the hours after a suspected case walks through the door.

Kenya’s numbers tell the story:
📋 All 135 contacts listed and traced, 100% of them
🏠 118 contacts placed under quarantine
🧬 All 8 secondary cases linked to the first case, either health workers who cared for the patient or close family
🚫 No community transmission, and no new case since 19 October
💚 20 contacts already home, with more expected to follow as patients recover

That is what early detection and a disciplined response look like. Kenya has shown leadership and transparency.

What every country in this position deserves in return is support and collaboration, not isolation.

🩺 Before he led Africa CDC, Dr Jean Kaseya was a young doctor facing Ebola on the front line.

In this conversation with @aproko_doctor , he goes back to the moments that shaped him and speaks directly to Africa’s young health workers, the people holding the line in district hospitals and health centres today.

Your district is the centre of the health system.

Ebola: The 42 days before an outbreak is declared over

For families waiting to resume everyday life, falling case numbers bring hope. But health teams must establish that transmission has stopped.

The countdown spans two maximum incubation periods, with contact tracing and surveillance continuing throughout. A new case means starting again.

Five months in, this is the hardest Ebola outbreak Africa has faced in a generation.

Our Director General laid out the data plainly to Africa’s health ministers, because a clear picture is where a real response begins.

There is reason for hope. Eleven health zones in the DRC have gone 22 days without a new case.

Where communities, health workers and governments move fast, the virus loses ground.

Behind every number is a family, a mother caring for a sick child at home, or a health worker who didn’t come back from a shift. 10,172 confirmed cases. 4,932 lives lost.

“We are not winning so far.” — said H.E. Dr Jean Kaseya at yesterday’s Extraordinary Ministerial Meeting on Ebola.

The room responded. Ministers agreed to get every country ready, to work hand in hand across borders and to keep those borders open while watching them closely. Partners stepped up behind Africa’s plan.

Because Ebola anywhere in Africa demands preparedness everywhere in Africa.
