Creative Director and Founder, Hiwot Takele took “The Blooming Flowers of the Royal Garden II” to Paris Fashion Week. A Spring/Summer 2027 offering, it is her latest collection for her brand - Hindeke by Hiwot. The collection draws inspiration from “Ye Serge Tizita” (“My Wedding Memory”), a song by Ethiopian singer Aster Aweke, exploring the beauty, emotion and memories associated with Ethiopian weddings. Takele worked with traditional Ethiopian handwoven Saba and Menen fabrics, transforming them into sculptural gowns, fitted silhouettes, voluminous skirts and elaborate draped forms. Floral embroidery, appliqué, beadwork and three-dimensional embellishments feature throughout, with a predominantly white and ivory palette interspersed with gold, green, orange, violet and soft pink. Based in Addis Ababa, Hindeke by Hiwot specialises in made-to-measure couture and bridalwear. For this collection, Takele draws on Ethiopia’s wedding traditions, giving familiar ceremonial references a more elaborate, sculptural treatment. #africanrunways #africanfashiondesigners #hindekebyhiwot #parisfashionweek by @africanrunways

Judy Sanderson showed her new androgynous and gender neutral collection. Drawing from her Hong Kong training, the pieces are voluminous and look comfortable while staying stylish. She has also engineered in a one size fits most situation to take wearers from “before dinner, after dinner, before pregnancy, [to] after pregnancy“ Judy Sanderson, created the textiles for her eponymous brand, trying several iterations that included experimenting with dyeing, tie-dyeing, spraying and even laser printing on the fabric. She also drew inspiration from her Limpopo province in South Africa by incorporating the Boabob tree and the color its fruit in her collection. Perhaps our best part of this collection are the jeans that look like they have dirt splattered on them. A dream for Judy who would come home dirty after playing outside as a child.
