We matter. We do. We always did- even now more than ever. It’s ok if this moment makes you feel seen, understood and heard - breathe. It’s ok to breathe in this moment.

But make no mistake, this is just a step in the right direction - A slow walk of trees like the great Toni Morrison would put it. But for now, we can breath.

So a few months ago, we had the opportunity to speak with Roseanne Brown author of A Song of Wraiths And Ruin. Check out our 2nd podcast episode!

Now a few things to know about Roseanne. She grew up in Kumasi, Ghana, moved to Maryland and later fell in love with writing.

As a matter of fact, writing was her way of connecting through her different cultures in Ghana and the United States. Now, she’s a New York Times bestseller and A Song of Wraiths and Ruin is gonna get adapted to a TV series.

Now if you haven’t read ASOWAR, she describes as what happens when Aladdin and Jasmine had to kill each other so lots of magic, steaming romance, and court drama. And if you’ve read the book, stay tuned for our conversations around mental illness, the Angry Black woman trope and the Soft Boi aesthetic.

For us, it’s a 2 -for- 1 deal! We had the incredible opportunity to sit down with Roseanne A. Brown (NYTimes Bestselling author of A Song of Wraiths and Ruin) a few months back! And trust us when we say this, her story is as epic as the worlds she created in A Song of Wraiths and Ruin. It even made us love the book more - and we can’t wait to share!

Right now, a family is mourning - a loved one was stolen from them. They said goodbye to their mothers, sisters, daughters yesterday morning - 8 of them didn’t return home. This hurts.

Our eyes are swollen, hearts feel heavy and hands can’t stop shaking- this hate shouldn’t be happening. Yet it happened. We stand with our Asian brothers and sisters. We see you and we’re here for you.

No one had to be killed for people to see the pain that the Asian community has been enduring for centuries in America - those invisible wounds and often overlooked trauma.

We find ourselves here again. Another month of trauma and we ask ourselves- Why can’t people see it?

The beauty in diversity and inclusion- how more colorful and bright it makes our world to learn and celebrate our nuanced differences, cultural complexities and local traditions.

But here we have an opportunity to author a new chapter in this story that is simply unfinished. We have an opportunity to participate in today’s history- to open ourselves to do more...
To be an ally and actually have each other’s backs
To listen, unlearn and learn.
