Dear Friends,
Today in Uganda, Wendy Faith (22) and Diana Denise (21) appeared in court after being arrested for allegedly being seen kissing in public. After several weeks in detention, they were granted bail today, but they still face legal proceedings that could lead to life imprisonment. This is not an isolated case, it is part of a broader pattern of criminalization and violence against LGBTQIA+ people, which is having particularly dramatic consequences in several African countries. In Wendy and Diana’s case, there are also reports of so-called conversion therapy. I would therefore like to ask for your support in signing and sharing this AfroQueer petition/manifesto. (Link in the bio)
In addition to signing and sharing, AfroQueer, Queer, or anti-racist organizations, as well as AfroQueer individuals, can also formally endorse the manifesto as named signatories visible in the text. Just DM me and I will add your name to the existing list. 🙏🏾

FRONTIÈRES QUEER -Sexualité, colonialité, décolonialité, Sandeep Bakshi, Postface de Paola Bacchetta, Éditions @rotbokrik, 2026.

Résumé
Le queer est-il seulement occidental ? Conçu au cœur même des Empires, son lexique est-il utile loin des métropoles et logiques coloniales ? Dans cet ouvrage, Sandeep Bakshi remet en question les généalogies admises du queer pour échapper aux instrumentalisations et aux normalisations dont il est l’objet.
Partant de pratiques et d’analyses des Suds, ce livre montre que, si les études et le militantisme queer ont produit des formes de pensée radicales, elles ne sont pas immunisées contre les a priori culturels, sociaux et raciaux. Le queer, lui aussi, a sa colonialité. Dès lors, c’est en adoptant une perspective décoloniale que le queer retrouvera toute la vigueur de son insurrection initiale, pour semer à nouveau le trouble.

Auteur
Né en 1974 à Hoshiarpur, en Inde, Sandeep Bakshi enseigne à l’université Paris Cité. Il est spécialiste de littérature postcoloniale et de théorie décoloniale. Il travaille sur la construction historique de la sexualité et du genre, notamment dans le cadre des relations entre le Nord global et les autres régions du monde.
En 2021, il a codirigé l’anthologie Qu’est-ce que l’intersectionnalité ? parue aux éditions Payot. Responsable du pôle « Société civile » de la Cité du Genre de l’université Paris Cité, il est également l’un des cofondateur du Decolonizing Sexualities Network.

"Across global queer activism and literature from the social sciences and humanities, the impact of empires on the regulation of sexuality and gender is an emergent theme. While there has been a considerable focus on British colonial criminal law, there is a need to investigate and compare the diverse forms of power and control adopted across the histories of European empires.

In Colonialisms and Queer Politics, Sonia Corrêa, Gustavo Gomes da Costa, and Matthew Waites provide a groundbreaking comparative analysis of empires and colonialities with respect to sexuality and gender diversity. Including contributions from an international team of authors, chapters focus on eleven empires: Portuguese, Spanish, British, French, Dutch, Ottoman, Russian, Belgian, German, Italian, and United States. Starting from the fifteenth century, authors explore how colonial racial hierarchies, gender norms, and heteronormativity structured relations between colonizing and colonized societies. The chapters reveal extreme variation in the regulation of sexualities, genders, and race, and shed light on the impacts of religious differences across colonialisms. The chapters also investigate continuing colonialities, particularly effects on contemporary governmental regulation and LGBTIQ+ activisms. By comparing both the histories and legacies of empires following formal decolonizations, Colonialisms and Queer Politics offers an essential contribution to the study and advancement of contemporary queer politics."

Nous recherchons des bénévoles pour nous accompagner a protéger, remettre des bouteilles d'eau et mobiliser avec nous. 12H-16H Fin bastille.
