Power cuts hit 119 circuits across Havana today, according to the city’s electricity company, as a US fuel blockade leaves Cuba’s grid able to meet barely a third of the country’s demand. The state electricity company, Unión Eléctrica, expected just 958 megawatts to be available at this evening’s peak against demand of 2,850 megawatts, leaving up to 1,922 megawatts cut off across an island where some neighbourhoods have gone without power for up to 20 hours a day.

The shortages follow an executive order signed by Donald Trump on 29 January threatening tariffs on any country that supplies oil to Cuba. Weeks earlier, US forces had kidnapped Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, cutting off Venezuelan oil shipments to the island, and Mexico, historically a major supplier, halted its shipments the same month under US pressure. By May, Cuba’s energy ministry said the country had run out of oil and diesel. The UN has since reported disrupted water supplies, medicine stocks at around 30% of normal levels and a 60% fall in food production. UN experts described the order as “a serious violation of international law”. by @afroaboriginal47

Iran designated Britain’s Royal Navy and Royal Air Force as “terrorist” organisations today and declared MI6, the UK’s foreign intelligence service, a “hostile group”. The foreign ministry said the measures were approved by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council in response to Britain’s “hostile actions over the past year”. These include its designation of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) under the UK’s State Threats Act on 13 July, and what Iran says was Britain’s provision of bases and facilities under its control for the US-Israeli war on Iran.

The navy and air force were designated under an Iranian law on retaliatory measures, and MI6 under a law on espionage and collaboration. Iran took a similar step against Canada’s navy last December, after Canada listed the IRGC as a terrorist organisation. by @afroaboriginal47

The #UAE-backed genocidal war on Sudan has entered its fourth year, and the world is STILL looking away!
33.7 million people, more than two-thirds of the population, need humanitarian assistance. Millions displaced, families destroyed, children starving, entire communities erased.
And the world’s response? Disgraceful silence.
Silence in the face of genocide is not neutrality, it’s complicity.
Talk about Sudan, post about Sudan, share the stories, the names, the facts. Make it impossible to ignore, every voice matters, and every share breaks the silence.

Olive Harvest in Gaza has been under attack since the beggining of the genocide. As we speak, only 1.5% of agricultural land is accessible & olive harvest production has been reduced by 90%! Throughout Palestine trees are being uprooted & massacred alongside their caretakers, Palestinians.

Today, we get a rare view into the olive harvest in Gaza & some insight from a farmer from Beit Hanoun about what it was like before the g*nocide. by @afroaboriginal47
