Celebrating the versatility of our Afro hair! 🤎✨

The 10th anniversary of World Afro Day coincides with 10 years + of wearing my hair in its natural state.

My last relaxer was in 2014, and after Miss E was born, I did the big chop end of 2015. I didn’t realise then just how much that decision would teach me about my hair, but more importantly, about myself.

I have embraced my natural hair in ways I never imagined, and somewhere along this journey, I found deeper levels of self-love, confidence and acceptance.

I learnt that loving my hair wasn’t always going to mean loving how it looked every single day. Sometimes it meant looking in the mirror and not quite liking what I saw, but choosing to care for it, understand it and appreciate it anyway.

I’ve learnt what my hair can do, what it absolutely refuses to do, and that there is no single way to care for or style Afro hair.

I’ve gone from 20-step wash days to simplifying my routine. From experimenting with extreme styling techniques to discovering simple, easy styles. I’ve worn my natural hair to birthdays, corporate events, weddings, church, family days and ordinary everyday moments. My hair has been part of so many chapters of my life.

And I’ve learnt that versatility isn’t just about how many styles our hair can do. It’s also about the freedom to wear it in the way that feels right for us, at whatever stage of our journey we are in.

I’m grateful for this journey and for the community I’ve found along the way. I’ve had the privilege of learning, sharing, teaching and discovering even more about Afro hair with so many of you.

10 years natural, and still learning. Still experimenting. Still discovering.

And honestly, no regrets.

Here’s to our coils, kinks, curls, texture, versatility and everything our Afro hair represents.

Happy 10th World Afro Day! 🎉🤎

Over the last 7 years, we’ve had the pleasure of working with different organisations, bringing employees together through the art of braiding, sharing skills, learning something new and creating opportunities for people to connect in a different way.

From banks and technology companies to museums, universities, colleges, secondary schools and beauty brands, we’ve worked with organisations including LinkedIn, Barclays, Wells Fargo, BBC, V&A Museum, Clyde & Co and Aveda/Estée Lauder, to name a few.

Whether it’s a corporate family day, a team-building activity, a cultural celebration, a Black History Month event or a hands-on workshop, we bring the tools, products, knowledge and experience to make it happen.

At Afrophbabe, we believe braiding is more than just hair. It’s about sharing skills, passing down culture, learning from one another and creating meaningful connections.

We’re looking forward to working with more organisations and bringing our workshops to your workplace. Could your organisation be next? 👀

This is the main reason I braid my hair myself!

Looking like "no more braids for me by others in the near future!"

Remember when I showed you guys a video and my edges were gone? Video is linked.

P.S. I also have anaemia due to low iron/Ferritin taken in London, United Kingdom by @afrophbabe

There is nothing protective when you do tight braids

Lets call a spade a spade.

A protective style is gentle to your edges, scalp and hair.

My braids were destructive and I will give you guys an update shortly.

Don't be like me!

Miss E is in Secondary School! 🥹

One of my favourite jobs is being their mom 😘

My favourite slides are 7&10🥹😍

But i also enjoy my other jobs and being me, Dorcas!

So, after I dropped her on her first day, I headed to TikTok HQ for an event.

The days are long but the years are indeed short 🥹

If you've not met miss E's big brother, here he is. He might ask me to delete this photo idk

Also took my youngest to school but he was in no mood for a photo 🙃

Invited for an event via @tress.ly

Guys seeing my TikTok page on the BIG screen really exposed me 😭

My covers are giving “everyone do your own thing” 😂 Definitely time for a little aesthetic glow-up!

My heart ❤️

I forced them to hold hands 🤣 I've now become the embarrassing mommy

Her first goodbyes at the school gate! She did so well. 😊

I pray that you will keep smiling all through secondary school

Love you Ese 😍 taken in London, United Kingdom by @afrophbabe
