A quien le gusta la Plena?? This Saturday Nov 15 @vitopalos brings Plena to Philadelphia! Featuring one of NYC’s best plena ensembles @plenadelpuente. If you have never seen a plena band before.. you don’t want to miss this. And if you already know then we’ll see you there 🕺

✨La Plena blends Latin American and African traditions into a uniquely Puerto Rican style. It consists primarily of the use of percussion (panderos and güicharo) and many singers. First embraced by working class people as a way to share their struggles through music, plena has become a symbol of Puerto Rican culture.

💫 Victor Pablo Garcia Gaetan @vitopalos is a Puerto Rican percussionist and composer based in NYC. He is known for his versatility, and can be found performing all over the country in broadway pits, salsa bands, Latin jazz, and chamber percussion groups. He also leads his own project , @elvapor.bk , through which one can hear his exciting and fresh take on Puerto Rican jazz.

This Saturday November 15, @tanicha_lopez 🇵🇷 will be making her Philly debut as the closer for the first annual @philatinofest. It’s an honor to have her in our city and she will be backed by an amazing band of Philadelphia musicians, mixing the rich musical cultures of Puerto Rico with the sound of Philly!

✨Raised in Carolina, Puerto Rico, Tanicha López is considered one of islands rising stars. Bridging the gap between tradition and the avant-garde, Tanicha mixes the profound musical traditions of her native Puerto Rico with the influences of R&B, gospel, and jazz in a way no one has before.

Her set is at 10 PM, followed by a Salsa after-party with @djvspice.

In the summer of 2025, @diaspo.rico partnered with @casasaffra to bring La Sala Libre—an immersive, seven-week cultural activation in the heart of Santurce.✨⁠

¿Sabías que el 70% de los latinos viviendo en Filadelfia son boricuas?

La semana pasada gestionamos un círculo de memoria con el Norris Square Community Senior Center. Estos abuelos nos contaron sobre sus historias de migración y cómo mantuvieron su cultura viva a través de la música, la comida, el lenguaje y las visitas a su tierra natal.

Además, tuvimos la oportunidad de tener una sesión de escucha comunitaria en Ulises Books, donde conocimos a periodistas, artistas y comunicadores para entender más cuáles historias podríamos contar en conjunto. Gracias a @ulisesbooks por su apoyo con el Meet & Greet.

Estos espacios fueron posible gracias a una colaboración con CAICU, Philadelphia Arts and Film Festival, AFROLATINO y el Mural Arts.

Did you know that 70% of #Latinos living in #Philadelphia are Puerto Rican?

Last week we co-curated a Memory Circle with the Norris Square Community Senior Center. These elders shared migration stories and how they kept their culture alive through music, food, language, and visits to their homeland.

We also had the opportunity to hold a community listening session at Ulises Books, where we met with journalists, artists and communicators to discuss the types of stories we should be co-creating. Thank you @ulisesbooks for your support with the Meet & Greet.
