Happy International Day of the Girl Child!

Oh gosh, I looove this picture. She had just heard her team’s name announced as an award winner in our AI for Her program @afrotechxcel

And i genuinely I want this for every girl: the chance to learn, build something of her own and have her work recognized.

Three years ago, I sat in a computer science lecture as the only girl in the room, again.

I was the gap I’m now closing. Building AfroTechXcel was my response.

Now, I’m happy to announce that I’ve been selected to join @unicef_nigeria @genunlimited Nigeria’s Young People’s Action Team (YPAT), 2026–2027

Through YPAT, I’ll bring our community lessons into education, AI and digital skills policy, with girls’ access, safety and ambitions at the center.

Thank you, GenU 9JA for the trust. Nigeria’s youth need more than aspirations. They need infrastructure. I’m here to help build it. by @afrotechxcel

What does it cost Africa when women don’t feel safe enough to participate online?
@africanunion_wgyd @africanunion_official

Last week in Addis Ababa, I joined practitioners from across Africa to launch the African Union’s Community of Practice on Technology-Facilitated Violence Against Women and Girls.

One perspective I brought into the room: protecting women online is also an economic issue. When women are pushed out of business, education, leadership or digital work, Africa loses their talent, innovation and economic contribution too.

My work sits between policy and practice. I started as an ML engineer and moved into AI governance, while building @afrotechxcel keeps me close to how technology actually reaches women and girls.

So for me, safety cannot just live in policy. It has to shape how we build AI from multilingual testing and guardrails to human oversight and ways to appeal when systems fail.

And protection is not the finish line:
Access → Literacy → Resilience → Agency → Leadership.

Women shouldn’t only be safe in Africa’s digital future.

We should have the power to shape it. by @afrotechxcel
