𝗜 𝗗𝗜𝗗𝗡’𝗧 𝗪𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗘 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗡𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗬𝗪𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥 𝗙𝗥𝗢𝗠 𝗔 𝗗𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗡𝗖𝗘
Long before Afruniverse, I had already spent time around the Nigerian film and entertainment industry.

These photographs are from that earlier chapter of my journey — on locations, around productions, meeting practitioners, observing the people behind the camera and experiencing some of the realities of an industry that was still finding its structure.

Those experiences stayed with me.

They helped shape my understanding of the ambition, talent, struggles, relationships and sometimes difficult realities behind Nollywood.

Years later, some of those observations found their way into my writing.

That is part of the background to my novel, 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗡𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗬𝗪𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥.

I did not write it as an outsider looking at Nollywood from afar. The story grew partly from a world I had encountered personally.

And there is something particularly satisfying about seeing the book now becoming discoverable through Google while I am simultaneously recovering and preserving photographs from that period.

The photographs themselves have become historical records.

Some were faded. Some had remained untouched for more than two decades. I am now cleaning and digitising them as part of the 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘃𝗲
, alongside documents, publications and, eventually, old video recordings from MiniDV, Hi8, Digital8 and Betacam.

There is another connection that makes this moment meaningful.

Afruniverse has now opened its marketplace more deliberately to 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺, 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗲𝘃𝗶𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 & 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘀 — directors, producers, actors, cinematographers, editors, sound professionals, costume and makeup practitioners, production personnel and the many people whose work makes the screen possible.

So, in an unexpected way, several chapters of my life are beginning to meet:

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗜 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗜 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲.
𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗜 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗲𝗱.
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝗜 𝗮𝗺 𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴.

The Nollywood Star is therefore more than another title in the Afruniverse Creative Store. by @afruniverse

Yesterday I attended. Next year, Afruniverse should be exhibiting. 🚀

I spent yesterday at Nigeria Fintech Week 2026 in Lagos, learning, networking and seeing how businesses are building and presenting their solutions.

And I came away with one very clear goal:

Afruniverse should have a stand at NFW 2027.

We are building a marketplace connecting businesses with African creative talent — and I want people to be able to walk up to Afruniverse, discover creatives and experience what we're building.

A lot has to happen before then.

But big things usually begin as decisions.

NFW26: I attended.
NFW27: Afruniverse should be exhibiting.

A chapter closes. The building continues. 🚀

Afruniverse was part of the Paystack SMB Launchpad, and yesterday we rounded off the journey at the closing ceremony at Radisson Hotel, Ikeja.

From learning and conversations to meeting founders, operators and members of the Paystack leadership team, the experience has given me plenty to take back into what we're building at Afruniverse.

Thank you, Paystack.

Now, back to building Africa's creative marketplace. 🌍

Before Nollywood became a global phenomenon, there were dreamers who believed Nigerian stories could reach beyond borders.

The Nollywood Star explores ambition, fame, creativity, sacrifice and the realities behind Africa's film industry.

Scenes from GITEX AI Nigeria 2026 🇳🇬

A rewarding opportunity to meet innovators, explore emerging technologies and connect with professionals from AWS, Platview Technologies, Zoho, KnowBe4, MiwaSky Technologies, NITDA, NATEP and other organisations.

I was also pleased to meet Jennifer Ogidi, Constantin Kannenberg, Oluwajọba Olobo and many other professionals contributing to Africa’s technology ecosystem.

The experience offered valuable ideas for the continuing development of Afruniverse—our marketplace connecting businesses with African creative talent.
