🖤 OUT NOW 🖤

Our new album ‘Surface | Essence’ is out now, and available everywhere.

“A tidal force of brutality and contemplative calm. It traverses the breadth of heavy sludge, calculated djent, and introspective post-rock, shaped by cyclical motif-building that never loses sight of raw power. It stands as a heavy, dynamic, and hypnotic statement.”
~ IDIOTEQ | Karol Kamiński

A very heart-felt shout-out to @jjkoczan / The Obelisk for helping us spread the word about our upcoming tour 🖤

See the full article here:
https://theobelisk.net/obelisk/2026/10/09/after-nations-east-coast-tour/

TLDR - The music industry is fucked. The work JJ does with The Obelisk is critical for independent artists, and we all benefit from it.

As some of you may know, things are getting significantly harder for independent artists to access audiences online for promoting new music, sharing tour dates, and generally being discovered. Mega-corp interests like Meta and Spotify have continued to shift their policies and back-end designs to exponentially favor corporately-backed artists (assets), gatekeeping independent artists from reaching audiences (and concentrating your attention around corporate investments).

The majority of what began as independent music press, blog, and zine culture have also largely been corporately captured, and pulled into the broader eco-system of monopoly-capitalism (the formal music industry). The short of that is, unless artists either have the backing of monied interests, or can personally afford to hire PR and promotional representation, audiences won’t know they exist. If you haven’t already, check out “𝐌𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐌𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐞” by Liz Pelly to learn more.

The Obelisk is a very rare exception to this. JJ writes from a place of deeply loving both music and the people who create it. His work resists the music industry’s singular drive to prioritize profit over all else, creating a space where independent artists can be seen and discovered based on their music, not on the money they can spend to capture attention. And that orientation nurtures a plurality of voices, and fosters an equitable field of attention, which is vital for art, creativity, and community. It enriches all of us.

Much love, JJ, for all of your time and energy, and for everything you do 🖤 by @after_nations

☸️ 𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐌𝐔𝐒𝐈𝐂 ☸️
We’ve just released the instrumental version of Vajra 🦑

As a band that’s been putting out instrumental music for more than a decade, we want to honor our roots by releasing an instrumental version of our latest single.

We’ve also made the decision to postpone incorporating vocals into our upcoming tour. As the vast majority of our music remains instrumental, we’ve decided to play this tour as purely instrumental. We’re not closing the door on the new vocal direction we’ve been exploring. When we debut vocals live, we want that experience to reflect the fully realized vision we have. For now, we will be playing our sets as we always have: instrumental, and with an abundance of love and gratitude.

See yall out there on the road in November 🖤
