BUILD A CAMPAIGN CALENDAR *BEFORE* YOUR CONTENT CALENDAR💡 Why? Because your campaigns are the foundation of your fitness studio’s marketing strategy, not just a list of posts.

Your campaign cal maps out:

🎯 MEMBER CHALLENGES
💰 SALES / PROMOTIONS
🗓 COMMUNITY EVENTS
🥳 SEASONAL HOLIDAYS / CELEBRATIONS

These are the moments that drive action — getting people to book, buy, and engage nowww (instead of “someday”).

Once you know what you’re promoting, your content calendar flows naturally, serving your studio’s business goals, not just filling up the grid.

GET STARTED ↓

01. List out the months, January to December

02. Brain dump campaign ideas under each category 🎯💰🗓🥳

03. Flush out the details + assign dates to your campaigns

04. Plot out placeholder content for social + email (teasers, announcements, on now, promo, last calls, recaps)

05. Layer in evergreen content — the timeless stuff that builds community + brand awareness (class snippets, how-to’s, instructor spotlights, behind the scenes)

From there, you’ll have a big-picture game plan 👀 that makes your content planning faster, more strategic, and way less stressful.

Make sense? SAVE THIS for your next strategy sesh with your studio owner and start locking in your Spring marketing campaigns 🌼

The *biggest* challenge I used to have as a studio social media manager wasn’t coming up with ideas, writing copy or learning how to edit videos (although those had their own learning curves) — IT WAS KEEPING UP with all the little details like instructor bios, event plans, logos, class details, photoshoots, etc.

I’d create strategies on Google Docs, save posts on Instagram and scribble ideas in my Notes app that I’d never look at again. I’d discuss plans with owners / managers over email, group chats, voice notes and Instagram DMs…

I’d do so with 5-6 clients at a time and wonder why I always felt busy, but not productive 😵‍💫

I worked constantlyyy (ironically often compromising my own healthy habits) and called it the “chronic chaos of freelancing.” Facepalm.

Insert the hero of the story → @notionhq ✨ Actually, I should probably give kudos to my sister (and dance studio owner) @nicolerosove for the reco 😘

FINALLY, a tool that was flexible and functional (kind of like @canva meets @airtable, if you’re familiar with those). I could extract allllll the information that was overloading my brain before ↑ and format it in a way that made most visual sense — all within a *single tab*. Literal angel bells.

Less digital clutter = more space to actually be strategic and creative 🎨

It’s THIS system (my not-so-secret Notion weapon) that has allowed me to manage marketing for studios with 25+ locations, scale a fitness festival while keeping the internal team small, and create quality content for multiple brands without losing my mind.

MY BIG GOAL now is to share my template with other studio owners / managers / marketers so more people can grow their fitness brands with ease and energy.

Sound like something your studio could use?! HOP ON THE WAITLIST ↑ and stay tuned for my first Notion template launch this Spring ☀️

HERE’S YOUR *HIGH LEVEL* STUDIO LAUNCH CHECKLIST ↓

01. Clarify your brand vision, vibe + values 👀

02. Set the tone on social + start building (ahem *attracting*) the right audience

03. Set up a waitlist to collect contacts (these will likely be your first customers)

04. Audit your market, plan your pre-sale offers + announce to your people ↑

05. Host a series of pre-grand opening sample classes + make it social

06. Tap into partnerships 🤝 (local wellness brands, industry brands, influencers)

07. List your business on Google/Apple Maps *often forgotten but so important

08. Overlap your pre-sale offers with your grand opening events

09. Have branded apparel / accessories ready

10. Encourage reviews + referrals with automated emails

Obviouslyyy, this is not a comprehensive list — each step comes with a bunch of mini steps and there’s always more you *could* do.

But launching is overwhelming enough, so if you’re in planning mode, SAVE this for now and DM me if you want a full guide! She’s a work in progress 🎨

If you’re the person who plans campaigns, creates content, sets up shoots (and prettyyy much wears all the marketing hats) at your spin / yoga / Pilates / strength / dance studio — I think you’re gonna like it here.

First order of business → shall we talk about how tf to organize your camera roll?!! 🥲 Here are some basic buckets to get started:

01. ACTION (people walking in, checking in, getting set up, socializing, etc.)

02. AMENITIES (all the fine details from soap to scent, equipment to accessories)

03. BRAND (a folder for quick access to your logos + colour palette)

04. CLASS BTS (clips of the workout, instructor snippets, group movement)

05. SHOOTS (folders for specific events, ie. “Grand Opening”)

Yours might look different — make it make sense for you. The end goal is to set up a folder system so you can save time searching and spend more time creating. If you want help, DM me! Happy to give you my opinion ☺️

It’s been more than a DECADE since I entered the beautiful, sparkly, sweaty world of boutique fitness and there are no signs of stopping — I am *obsessed* 🤌 What started in 2014 as “cleaning in exchange for free barre classes”, led me to becoming a spin instructor, working with incredible studios and running marketing for @wearespinco.

IT’S BEEN A JOURNEY (as we looove to say in this industry 😉) of so many great experiences, opportunities and people, but somehow I feel like I’m just getting to the good stuff.

Sharing it all as I go → @afterglowsocial ✨

THE TAKEAWAYS ↓ Working with @cityofom over the last three years has been an absolute *dream* and has taught me a ton about marketing fitness festivals that you — boutique studio owners / managers — can apply to your next event:

When hosting an event (whether it’s a small in-studio pop up or full fledged festival):

✷ Work backwards to plan your ticket launch timeline and build HYPE before people can purchase. For this festival, we did a teaser, save the date, lineup announcement, earlybird offer, on-sale and last calls.

✷ Embrace collaboration 🤝 — with other studios, aligned brands, your team/instructors, local influencers (who care about fitness and are involved in your sweat scene).

✷ Have a dedicated person to capture / post during the event. This creates FOMO, gives participants something to share and gives you a content bank to pull from for your next event.

✷ USE YOUR EMAIL LIST. Your contact list is *free* to market to and is made up of people who have already expressed interest in what you offer (waitlist subscribers, past/current customers). See most recent post for more on email marketing 😉

✷ Offer upgrades or add-ons 🛍️ — merch, food/bev, early access, extra experiences, etc.

HAPPY EVENT PLANNING ✨ What kind of event is your studio planning (or participating in) next? Tell us about it in the comments or DMs and let us know if you’ve got q’s!

What are you confused with / overwhelmed by / dreaming of when it comes to using email for your studio? 📨✨ LET’S LEVEL UP ↓

PS. Here are those tips I mentioned on inbox communication:

Your studio’s ‘info@’ or ‘hello@’ email isn’t an obvious *marketing* channel, but *it is email content* in the most traditional sense and certainly an intimate brand touch point, so I figured it deserved mentioning.

TIP 01. Review your brand guidelines with your team. Familiarize them with your studio’s appropriate brand voice, tone, language and communication rules so they can reply to inquiries sounding like the same business.

TIP 02. Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) around inbox management (like response time, setting OOO notices and a framework for fielding complaints or concerns).

TIP 03. Keep copy and paste-able templates handy (or better yet — saved!) for consistent (and efficient) responses to common questions.

✷ Hope this helps! If you’re looking for more, we’re here to ease your load with done-for-you email marketing services and DIY templates (dropping this summer!) 👀

PS. You can build and manage all emails mentioned in this post (transactional messaging, auto-campaigns and e-blasts) on most studio marketing software — our fave is BrandBot by @xplortechnologies!

General biz advice just *not* cutting it for your boutique fitness studio? 😬 Enter: these 5 resources ↓ (books, pods and more I’ve binged — and continue to rely on — for insight and inspo SPECIFIC to our industry).

In no particular order… 🥁

01. Building a Badass Boutique by @emmabarry_gfa 📓 // This book is the studio bible, IMO. No fluff. It’s actually more of an educational roadmap that breaks down studio fundamentals (your brand, people, programming, systems, etc.) and guides you to apply the advice to your business with worksheets. It’s $9.99 on Amazon for the Kindle version and well worth the read!

02. @fittinsider 🗞 // A go-to source for global health, fitness and wellness business news. They’ve got a blog, weekly newsletter and podcast — PLUS a job board (you can list your studios’ opportunities for free) and even an industry-focused investor roster.

03. @marianatek 💻 // This leading studio software offers free workshops, case studies and e-books about boutique fitness studio strategies and success stories. A must.

04. Boutique Fitness Marketing Podcast by @pixalitydesign 🎙 // Hosted by Connie Holen, a fitness website designer and long-time marketer, this new(er) podcast goes deep into conversation about studio marketing strategies. Tons of takeaways in each epi.

05. @studiogrowco 🤓 // Virtual business coaching for studio entrepreneurs (haven’t done this myself, but have heard great things), plus they’ve got guidance *galore* in their shop and on their podcast, The Business of Boutique Fitness. Another gem.

✷ SAVE for your next walk, commute, whatever — and let me know what other resources you’d recommend!
