Some favorites from a photo/video project with @bradford_smith and @mawieeeeeeeee for the new @silca_velo Protocol tires.

We had just a couple of days to make some magic before the product launch and, in the midst of @made.bike preparations, these two showed up and absolutely crushed it.

Awesome people in some of the best golden hour light I’ve seen in a while. Very stoked on how all this turned out. And apparently I’m not the only one because the tires are now sold out through October 🫠 taken in Portland, Oregon by @afterhoursframebuilding

Albert Einstein famously noted " I thought of that while riding my bicycle"

That's where my booth idea came from, while riding. Thinking about how to work operations for the show and also showcase the bikes I'm making and riding. A way for folks to interact with the booth without me standing at the booth the entire weekend. I wanted to be a little cheeky and play off after hours and the red light district peep show windows. Walking by and seeing what's going on inside.

I'm so fortunate and thankful for Nolan @juncturewoodworks for lending a hand to make this come to life off a napkin sketch.

Thanks to everyone for stopping by the booth!

Gonna miss the organic feeling at zidell yards the past 4 years have been pretty special.

I’ll be tattooing this flash FOR FREE at the @made.bike show this Saturday the 22nd from 9-5. This is maaade (ha) possible by @industry_nine and thanks to Bradford @afterhoursframebuilding for suggesting me! MADE is going to be an amazing show for bike enthusiasts of all kinds, and if you come get a tattoo that’s more than worth the ticket price so come out and get a lug or a dynaplug on your arm or leg and see some rad bikes and nerd out on components and wheels.

Scroll through for my assortment of bike related tattoos! I *think* I can do all of these in under an hour, a lot of them in under 30 minutes so I’m hoping to cram a bunch in depending on which designs people want.

I’ve probably talked to hundreds of clients about bikes who really didn’t want to talk about bikes so I’m really sorry to them but hopefully people at the show will be willing to debate me on whether threadless or threaded headsets are better.

I’ve been called weird by one of the weirdest people I know (Lydia) for how much I like bikes and ride everywhere I can, rain or shine. But since I have little to no competitive spirit and have never raced and also generally dislike large group rides, I’ve never really felt like part of the bike community so this is a really great way for me to contribute to something that has brought me joy almost my entire life other than that year or two in my early twenties that I didn’t have a bike after my ‘95 Hard Rock with twist grips got stolen from an apartment bike cage. Now THAT’s a run-on sentence.

Hopefully see you at the show! Otherwise come get a tattoo! It doesn’t have to be a bike tattoo! Happy Thor’s day!

There’s a new protocol in bicycle tires.

Meet the SILCA Protocol tire lineup. Faster in the lab. Faster on dirt and the road.

We didn’t just slap thick rubber onto traditional road casings for our entry to the tire segment. Rather, we started from scratch in bringing a collection of gravel and high-volume road tires to life.

By incorporating XC mountain bike performance into high-efficiency platforms, we designed these tires specifically for modern wide rims and lower air pressures.

Our inverse proportional design pairs larger tire volumes with supple 120 TPI casings. This means that at lower pressures the casing naturally deflects impact forces.

The result? Fewer flats, lower rolling resistance, and a much smoother ride.

This launch also marks a new milestone for SILCA. For years, professional gravel racer and marginal gains aficionado @dylanjawnson avoided official tire sponsorships. He wanted the freedom to run whatever tested fastest in the lab and on the dirt. That changes today. We are proud to welcome Dylan to the SILCA family as he helps us bring the Protocol lineup to life.

RCG-1 (Fast Gravel): Directional center tread for high-tempo Category 1 & 2 gravel and mixed-surface racing.
