MISSION.247 “WELCOME TO HELL” - COMPLETE
12 hours // 60km run // 110km ski // P13th/40

I was voice-noting a good friend talking about the race & it made me reflect a lot about what it meant to me.

The event format is brutal - you’ve done 6 max effort uphill 5kms and hard ski intervals between and suddenly it’s time for number 7 with absolutely nothing left but the knowledge that there’s 5 more after that.

But it teaches you so much about yourself; you never negotiate with the pain and take every hill / pull as it comes putting everything into it, you realise that there’s harder things in the world and this is part of your peace, and then; metre by metre, hour by hour, you slowly realise it’s going to be possible to complete this.

And something I was already learning but was cemented; the people around you are everything; fist bumps as each person arrives to base from the run, a quick shout of unreal work as someone’s ripping the ski, or a group we’ve fkin got this 9 hours in when it feels impossible. To @allana_falconerfit_ @soleilcollins @ethankirkwood @jonny_jackson1 you all showed the best heart and inspire me and I’ll remember this always. And to everyone who competed; you’re all legends & was an honour to share the arena.

Thank you to @247represent for an incredible event, the vibe was top, the team were so kind and helpful, and the setting was perfect.

Mission accomplished & first ultra complete 💙 taken in Holmfirth by @afterhoursluke

Choose the ones who make you great.

For a while we all felt like the odd one.

But turns out two odd, make one even.

One became two. And two became 404.

We believe in the power of people.
The people that make you great.

This might be it. A new city in Europe with family, old friends, new friends, and everyone there to see how far their mind and bodies can take them, all with unbelievable support for each other.

So many moments: 10th place and 28 seconds off our first sub 60 with @jadeebutcher , my first flag on a relay with friends I’ve met over the last couple of months @callum_li @bronteeward @nereaizcue , @keelan_h first Hyrox and an unreal time, and an amazing traditional Latvian dinner with all the @404ldn family who were out there racing.

Thanks to everyone who hung out or chatted, cannot wait for the next one; nothing beats a Hyrox holiday. by @afterhoursluke

Maybe fitness is just one of the few things that encompasses lots of the elements of a happy life & that’s why we can’t stop.

We get to feel good & present, we get to be around & share experiences with amazing people, we get to feel progress & accomplishment, and we get something to look forward to every day.

Found a lot of joy recently in the process & not chasing specific paces :)) by @afterhoursluke

Life couldn’t feel more different than this time last year. I started running fast to feel nothing and then to try and get a sense of identity. But I’ve realised none of that matters, it’s about the happy moments with friends and family; shared experiences, text exchanges, FaceTimes, coffees, dinners, runs and it all just keeps getting better.

I will say that multiple espressos a day, visits to the track (carbons only), and having big quads helps a lot though.

Back racing again soon and can’t waittttttttt 👀 by @afterhoursluke

Favourite race result ever, in the last chance saloon.

Our goal was to hit a sub 60 before Jade got married and, having missed it by 29 seconds in Riga 2 months ago, we did it with 3 weeks to go :))

Jade deserved this, she’s worked her ass off all year on the treadmill in silence, and she left everythinggg on that course, very proud.

Istanbul was a vibe; 2 lap course, lots of chicken shish, lots spent on fake t shirts in the bazaar, and too much raki / tequila. Will probs be coming back every year.

What a start to Hyrox seasonnnnn. Hyrox Istanbul 58:36, OV: 13, AG: 4 by @afterhoursluke

Hyrox Istanbul - 58:36 // 4th in AG // 13th Overall

I set myself a goal this year of getting a sub 60 Hyrox with Luke before my wedding and with less than 3 weeks to go WE DID IT!!!!!!!!!! 🥹🥹🥹🥹

We booked this race whilst in Riga 8 weeks ago when we missed our sub 60 goal and since then I have continued my training however put zero pressure on myself and said what will be will be.

I am so beyond proud of us, can’t thank you enough @afterhoursluke for pushing me in my training and for being the best brother/ support system 🤍🤍

JULYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY, WERE YOU THE BEST EVER????

Not much to say, just so grateful for these sports and, most importantly, for all of the people in my life, v happy heart.

If last Friday confirmed one thing it’s that we can be down but, with the right people, we’re never out.

Few highlights from side quest central

On relay qualifier: Sprinting through red lights and rush hour traffic to reach the check points - felt like real life fast and furious street racing & we got to the finals.

On relay final: Sprinting through tobacco docks car park - Tokyo drift style - I went the wrong way when it was nearly impossible to do so and cost us the heat win, hate to see it.

Track Baddie 5km: First night track race atmosphere was real cool & got to wear spikes and no socks, didn’t go exactly to plan (chip time was 16:37 & 3:19/km pace) but still a pb and loved watching everyone send it. This will be an annual event and we promised each other we’ll each take 1 minute off by next year - we ain’t going out like that.

Mission 247: Learned what burying myself really feels like, learned what a team really is, learned the real spirit of endurance sport, and learned what area admin really isn’t. Cannot wait for next year already.

Personal: Djed Spence tackle v Argentina, New Yorkkkk, Josh Kerr 222, and question of sport road trip to Holmfirth.

Augustttt let’s go baby - time to lock in for some races 👀 by @afterhoursluke

Never felt less alone & never felt more fulfilled.

Dream few weeks; Back racing again, New York for July 4th (world cup), take that & party, watching Kerr break the mile record, side quests everywhere, eating too much brioche, and non stop running with legends.

Track, gym, smile, repeat :))

Most consistent period of speed & conditioning work I’ve had over the last month & even better to enjoy every second of it (maybe if we exclude those last 400s at 30 degrees).

Some really exciting races going in the calendar coming up, including a 5km track race in a couple of weeks and some big hyroxs.

More of the same please - lets gooo 💙 by @afterhoursluke
