Our Love Story

I was a bachelor, fresh from a failed relationship, and honestly, I had made up my mind to take a break from love for the foreseeable future. Marriage was not exactly at the top of my list. Then came my mother, with that unmistakable motherly confidence, insisting that I meet a certain girl because, in her words, “You’ll like her.”
Through our mutual aunties, Aunty Ify and Aunty Christy, the introduction was made. “There’s this guy who has refused to marry, but he is interested in settling down.”
Neither of us knew that this seemingly ordinary introduction would become the beginning of something extraordinary.
What started with a simple “Hi” and “Hello” slowly turned into hours of conversations, laughter and getting to know each other.
Eventually, in May 2023, we agreed to meet in person. I still remember how nervous I was the first time I went to meet her father. Walking into that house, I knew I was meeting not just her father, but the man whose daughter had become so important to me.
My father-in-law welcomed me with such warmth and made me feel so comfortable that what I had imagined as a nerve-wracking encounter became a beautiful beginning to another chapter of our relationship.
Today, when we look back, it is amazing to think that neither of us was actively looking for love when we found each other.
Two people who started with a “Hi.”
Two people who took a chance on a meeting neither of them expected to become anything serious.
And somehow, that chance became us.
From an unexpected introduction, to an online friendship, to that first journey from Port Harcourt to Yenagoa, to meeting each other’s families, to falling in love, and now to standing at the beginning of forever…
Our story reminds us that sometimes, the love you never planned for becomes the love you could never imagine living without.
And this is only the beginning.
