My short story, “One Last Bounty,” is out in @tarbabyquarterly issue NO. 5: Afrofutures / Dark Matters guest edited by the one and only @shereereneethomas with cover art by @johnjenningsart. Which follows a freed slave turned bounty hunter, Jupiter, on a quest to buy his family’s freedom but his world is turned upside down when he arrives to Green Valley.

Originally worked on this in @richardgthomas3 Dark Speculative Course at the end of 2024. Big shout out the Carbon Collective, especially @miss.aishatu for reminding there’s something here in the piece despite the up and downs.

Link in bio to buy this stacked issue, I got a story in the same issue as Ishmael Reed, 😩😭😭🫠 madness I tell ya.

“I want us to never forget that humor has to be a part of the revolution” -bell hooks

Today we honor and remember bell hooks on her birthday, not for what she gave the world but for who she dared to be despite the odds stacked against her. Belonging, equality, education... her legacy spans sectors, genres, and categories, yet we often forget just how funny she was.

#bellhooks #humor #revolution

Check out this short clip featuring bell hooks and OBI director @profjohnapowell from the 2015 Othering and Belonging Conference, which is sure to give you a little laugh. taken in Oakland, California by @ageedubb

The year of poetry continues!!!

For my third worldcon I was the Poetry Co-chair w/ @writercamille. I couldn’t have hoped to take this challenge on with anyone but Camille. I’m not only a better poet but person because of working with her. Thankful for @twhpoetry for bringing us together. Excited for our next shenanigans.

I also got to read some new work, moderate and panel with some really amazing writers about genre, poetry, and speculative. Somto, Camille, Christian, Angela, and Marie at the Speculative Poetry Salon. taken in Anaheim, California by @ageedubb

What happens when writers are given permission to make badly?

At our first gathering at Ox-Bow, we came together as writers. But for seven days, writing wasn’t the only way we created.

We tried ceramics, glassblowing, papermaking, printmaking and other practices that many of us had little or no experience with alongside seasoned visual artists. We were beginners again, working experimentally, playfully, and outside the medium in which we’re accustomed to being taken seriously.

There is something useful about making a thing you don’t expect to be good at.

You stop worrying about whether it belongs in a submission. Whether it’s publishable and demonstrates mastery. You make mistakes and laugh at what comes out. Sometimes you surprise yourself.

And then you return to the page a little less precious about what happens there.

That spirit of experimentation is part of what we want The Liturgy Salon to always hold.

Applications close September 5.

Last September, we went into the woods.

Fifteen writers came together at Ox-Bow for seven days of writing, workshops, conversation, wandering, making things, swimming, shared meals, and most importantly time with the work.

This winter, The Liturgy Salon is gathering again.

Our next gathering will take place December 1–7, 2026 at Millay Arts in Austerlitz, New York, where a small cohort of fiction writers will have time for concentrated manuscript work alongside substantial independent writing time.

Applications close in 6 days!

See the link in bio.
