Big changes are coming to Stockholders Steakhouse @stockholderssteakhouse in South Weymouth, Massachusetts!

The longtime South Shore restaurant at 1073 Main Street on Route 18 has temporarily closed for a complete renovation, and its original owner is returning!

Kevin Hynes, founder of Hynes Restaurant Group @hynesrestgroup , has regained ownership of Stockholders, which he originally opened in 2010.

And if you’re familiar with South Shore restaurants, you’ve probably heard of some of his other locations, including Precinct 10 @precinct10weymouth in Weymouth, Bay Pointe Waterfront Restaurant @baypointequincy in Quincy, and 71° West Atlantic Steakhouse @71westplymouth and 42° North @42northplymouth in Plymouth.

The plans for the new Stockholders include a completely redesigned interior, an entirely new menu and a fresh dining experience while keeping its popular steak and seafood concept.

Expected reopening: Spring 2027.

And good news for anyone holding Stockholders gift cards, they’ll remain valid and can be used at the other Hynes Restaurant Group restaurants during the renovation.

With the original owner returning and a major transformation underway, this is one South Shore restaurant reopening worth keeping an eye on!

Have you eaten at Stockholders before? What would you love to see in the new restaurant?

Big decisions are coming up in Cohasset, Massachusetts! 🏫

A proposed new police station and the potential renovation or replacement of Cohasset Middle/High School will be two major topics at the town’s upcoming Special Town Meeting.

Here’s what’s being proposed:

🚔 New Cohasset Police Station: A revised, approximately $20.9 million proposal would bring a new police facility to 135 King Street. The project has been scaled back from an earlier design, and the rendering shown in this video is from that previous proposal.

If approved at Town Meeting, the project would still require voter approval of a debt exclusion on December 5th, which would increase property taxes temporarily to pay off the borrowing.

🏫 Cohasset Middle/High School: Residents will consider transferring up to $2 million from existing school funds to support a feasibility study, currently estimated at $1.5 million, exploring renovation, expansion or replacement options.

Important clarification: Residents are NOT voting to build a new school. This vote would only authorize funding to study the available options.

📍 Cohasset High School, Sullivan Gymnasium

📅 Monday, October 26, 2026, at 7 PM

Both proposals raise important questions about public safety, education, infrastructure and future municipal spending in Cohasset and the South Shore of Massachusetts.

What do Cohasset residents think about these proposals? Are there questions or concerns you’d like addressed before the vote?

Should Duxbury’s iconic Powder Point Bridge be preserved or replaced?

A major new development in the ongoing Powder Point Bridge debate has emerged in Duxbury, Massachusetts.

The Federal Highway Administration has determined that the existing wooden bridge is not eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.

Although the original bridge dates back to 1891, the structure standing today was rebuilt in 1986 following a devastating fire.

MassDOT is currently planning a steel and concrete replacement, with an estimated construction contract of approximately $167 million.

Supporters of replacement point to the bridge’s deteriorating condition, safety concerns and ongoing maintenance costs.

Those advocating for preservation want to maintain the character of the wooden bridge and explore alternatives to a complete replacement.

There are also concerns about the potential multi-year construction closure and its impact on Duxbury Beach access.

The federal determination doesn’t settle the debate, and the Duxbury Selectboard is expected to discuss the issue again on October 19th.

What do you think? Should Duxbury preserve and rehabilitate the existing Powder Point Bridge, or move forward with a modern replacement?

💥THE NUMBERS ARE IN💥

How many single-family homes sold on the South Shore in September 2026?

Here’s a look at home sales across the South Shore, along with some interesting comparisons to September 2025!

Plymouth led the way with 74 homes sold, compared to 61 last September, an increase of 21%.

Weymouth saw 41 sales, compared to 31 in September 2025, an increase of 32%.

Meanwhile, Hingham recorded 20 sales, compared to 22 last year, and Cohasset had just 2 sales, compared to 4 in September 2025.

Kingston also saw more activity, with 18 homes sold compared to 11 last September.

The Jackson Square redevelopment, led by Venetian Restaurant owner Eric Papachristos and CMK, includes:

🏠 202 new apartments across five buildings, according to the project’s architect

🏬 New retail, restaurant and commercial spaces

🏡 Approximately 10% affordable housing

🚶 Improvements to pedestrian access, public spaces and the surrounding neighborhood

And what about The Venetian, one of Weymouth’s most recognizable restaurants?

Earlier plans called for The Venetian to remain open during construction before eventually relocating into a brand-new space within the development.

Construction began in October 2025, with the developer targeting March 2027 for completion.

With so much new housing and commercial development happening across Weymouth and the South Shore of Massachusetts, Jackson Square could look very different in the coming years.

What do you think about the redevelopment? Is this a welcome change for Weymouth, or do you have concerns about how it will impact the neighborhood?

Two major housing developments could bring 160 new homes to Duxbury, Massachusetts, but now the town is considering purchasing the land for one of them.

The larger proposal, Miramar Estates, would bring 100 homes to approximately 30 acres at 121 Parks Street, overlooking Kingston Bay.

A second proposed development near High Street and Valley Street would add another 60 rental townhomes.

Both projects are being proposed under Massachusetts Chapter 40B, which allows qualifying affordable housing developments to seek approval through a special permitting process. Together, the projects would include 37 affordable units.

But residents have raised concerns about traffic, environmental impacts and the scale of development.

And now, Duxbury’s Selectboard has announced plans to pursue purchasing the Miramar property, citing the importance of protecting drinking water, open space and natural resources.

Neither development is approved, and the town’s potential purchase is not finalized.

With housing affordability, new construction and land preservation becoming major issues across the South Shore of Massachusetts, this is a story worth following.

What do you think? Should Duxbury prioritize adding more housing or preserving properties like Miramar?

Should police departments on the South Shore be using cameras that automatically track license plates?

The town of Norwell, Massachusetts has officially decided to discontinue its use of Flock Safety license plate reading cameras.

The Norwell Police Department announced that the cameras would be shut off, removed and that previously collected data would be destroyed.

The decision came after feedback from Norwell residents and discussions with town officials.

But this is becoming a much bigger conversation across Massachusetts.

Flock Safety cameras are automated license plate readers that capture vehicle information, allowing law enforcement to search that information during criminal investigations.

Supporters of the technology point to its potential benefits for public safety, including helping police investigate crimes, identify vehicles and locate missing or endangered individuals.

Those opposed have raised concerns about privacy, government surveillance, data sharing and the potential misuse of information collected from everyday drivers.

And Norwell isn’t the only Massachusetts community reconsidering the technology.

Several towns across the state have recently canceled, suspended or declined to renew their agreements with Flock Safety.

INTERESTING DETAIL:

WCVB Channel 5 has created an interactive map showing which Massachusetts communities have Flock camera agreements and which have canceled or paused their use.

You can check the map to see the reported status of your own town.

With this technology being used and debated across Massachusetts, including communities on the South Shore, I’m curious what local residents think.

Should towns like Hingham, Norwell, Scituate, Cohasset, Marshfield, Weymouth, Quincy and other South Shore communities be using these cameras?

Do the potential public safety benefits outweigh the privacy concerns?

Or should these cameras be removed altogether?

Let me know what you think in the comments.

Thinking about moving to the South Shore of Massachusetts, but not sure which town is right for you?

Here’s the quick breakdown of 8 of the most popular coastal towns on the South Shore:

HINGHAM
If you want the complete package, Hingham gives you a beautiful downtown, coastal neighborhoods, restaurants, shopping, great schools and convenient access into Boston.

HULL
If you want true beach living, start with Hull. Nantasket Beach, ocean views and waterfront homes are a huge part of everyday life here, and your money can often go further than some neighboring coastal towns.

COHASSET
If you’re looking for a smaller, quieter coastal community with a beautiful village center, incredible coastline and more of a luxury feel, Cohasset should be on your list.

SCITUATE
If your idea of the South Shore is a classic New England harbor town, Scituate might be it. Beaches, Scituate Harbor, restaurants, shops and some incredible coastal neighborhoods make this one of the most popular towns for buyers.

MARSHFIELD
If you want the coastal lifestyle but also want more space and property for your money, Marshfield offers a great combination of beaches, neighborhoods and larger lots.

DUXBURY
If you’re looking for a quieter residential feel, larger properties and one of the most beautiful coastlines on the South Shore, Duxbury is tough to beat.

KINGSTON
If you want more house and property for your budget while still being close to the coast, Plymouth and Duxbury, Kingston can offer a ton of value.

PLYMOUTH
If you want OPTIONS, Plymouth has them. Waterfront homes, historic downtown living, beach communities, newer construction, golf communities and larger properties can all be found within one town.

The biggest mistake I see buyers make when moving to the South Shore is assuming all of these coastal towns are basically the same.

They’re not.

Hingham, Hull, Cohasset, Scituate, Marshfield, Duxbury, Kingston and Plymouth all offer completely different lifestyles, neighborhoods, housing options and price points.

If you’re thinking about moving to the South Shore and aren’t sure where to start, send me a DM. Tell me what you’re looking for, and I’ll help you n taken in Downtown Hingham by @agent.murph
