even with sev staying at camp the lady’s for the past few months we’ve seen him every holiday 🫶🏼 he’s done so so stellar. He’s earned trust to be off leash in the yard even when my mom’s dog is inside. I’m told all our training efforts really shine through even when I’m not there. It was really hard not having him home with me, but it was amazing knowing he was doing so well. (portion above was written as of January 2024 just delayed in posting drafts) by @agentsofheeling

sev had been staying at my moms house since November 2023. His stay started a few days before our universal trip went on. His baby brother being mobile (walking, toddling thru the house freely) while he was still rehabbing his left hind leg had given him nothing but anxious feelings in our apartment to the point of him licking & chewing the tops of 3 of his 4 feet raw. He didn’t trust his own mobility since his accident, so an unpredictable baby toddling around is understandably terrifying, I needed a solution that wasn’t just sedative medications. My parents were gracious enough to let him stay with them. He did amazing. Less anxious when his there & rehabbing his leg by playing with my moms dog in their yard & following the house hold up & down the stairs. His muscle tone has improved a ton in his almost 3 months there. He’s come home for some trial runs to see where he’s at & the anxiety absolutely spikes when he’s home in the apartment with the baby & I. We fixed up a wooden crate we found on market place to put in the living room of our apartment so seven has a safe space like he used to as a puppy, that won’t make a loud metal noise if the baby bangs on it. The boy is finally home! He trusts his body & mobility a lot more again & is not as anxious so far but it’s only been a few days so far. If signs of anxiety pop back up hopefully our normal vets can prescribe him some anti anxiety medication that isn’t a sedative, cause a true vet behavioralist is out of our price range for the next good while. (This portion above was written as of 01/03/24 just super delayed in posting these drafts he’s been home since January! He did go back to camp the lady’s while we went to visit dad’s family in Jamaica in April but he came right home when we did another post will explain more on that (: ) by @agentsofheeling

a fucking strong boy.
recovery is going so far so good!
he’s a pretty cozy orange slice who gets bursts of desire to play & nothing else.
we have his suture removal appointment on Monday !

we’re so so appreciative of everyone who shared & or donated to our gofundme. It was entirely unexpected than anyone would even create the gofundme let alone donate to it. we’re so thankful agent seven is still alive & mostly unaffected.

Im leaning towards saying he’s definitely retired from full time work but we may pursue an avenue like therapy dog work once he’s all recovered & cleared.

A few of the vets we’ve seen have said if recovery goes as expected he could go back to work as a service dog, but I don’t know if that’s the right call at all.
He freezes up on walks when he hears pick up trucks passing. I just don’t know. I have mainly been concerned with his recovery before having expectations of him again.

He absolutely will miss working full time, but I don’t think he’ll love me any less for not dragging him along everywhere anymore.

truly i do not mind the idea of seven being a family dog who’s best friend is my son. That thought actually makes me really happy, even if I’m devastated when I think about going through life without him all the time again. by @agentsofheeling

🗣️Agent seven needs the community’s support!
He was recently the victim of a hit & run leaving him with a fractured femur leading into his hip joint.
He’s awaiting available surgeons (earliest available is the 6th of September as this occurred just before Labor Day) with just pain management & encouraging rest as his option until then.

I can’t imagine how shitty he feels.
So here I am posting a prettier info graphic post ( btw huge thank you to @pawsitivepupspdx for the assist on these beautiful slides ) hoping I can at least raise funds for his best & fastest recovery possible because there’s not much else I can do.

If you’re not in a position to donate anything I so entirely understand but would be beyond appreciative if you could share this or my other post about seven’s accident with the gofundme link from my bio. 🫶🏼

UPDATE: 09/06/23 most every vet hospital with ortho surgeons on staff are short staffed either in actual surgeons or vet techs and kennel staff; so no one has been able to help us at all still. My dog got hit on the 30th. And is still waiting for surgery to fix his left femur which is fractured in his hip joint. I’m angry, I’m exhausted, I want my best friend out of pain yesterday.
SECOND UPDATE: next state over has an appointment available Monday 7am hopefully for an fho (: it’s a 3 hour 2 minute drive but it’ll be worth it. by @agentsofheeling

self explanatory.

Waiting for the next available surgeon has left me with way too much time to think.

Thankfully we get to take him to the next surgeons facility the night of the 5th, and they’d intake him as an emergency patient & then he’ll get to see the surgeon as soon as their available. And it’s the 4th. So 2 more days, only one more night. I’m sorry your in pain lil dude. I’m doing everything I can. by @agentsofheeling

I don’t even fully feel emotionally prepared to make this post but I really can’t do anything expect try to share our story & hope it will reach those who might be able to help us in the moment
& also serve maybe as a reminder that even a dog with super solid recall could still decide one day the environment is more interesting & end up in an accident you didn’t even witness.

We called 15+ vet offices in our state searching for surgeons who could help him. Our last hope within our state isn’t available until the 6th so all I can do to help my best friend is encourage rest, help stay ontop of pain management & try to make sure we have the funds to help him heal as fast as possible.

Our go fund me link is in our bio, thank you for taking the time to read my series of unfortunate events; your prayers & shares are immensely appreciated. 🫶🏼 by @agentsofheeling

I am a reactive human.

I have c-ptsd, bpd, autism, DiD, & ocd.

I occasionally find myself having abnormal reactions that seem very explosive & extreme in response to small things occurring or general situations I find myself in.

I’ve always been that way, for as long as I could remember. & there’s not a whole lot that can help stoke out my rage.

However, seeing a dog react to my anger, makes me come to my senses, real fast. I don’t want any dog I ever meet to be scared of me. Never have, never will.

The biggest way having a dog in general helps me, is that it gives me something in the world I genuinely care about. their happiness, health & overall well being. experiencing caring for a dog has taught me that I love myself & am capable of caring for my own well-being too.

The part about having a psychiatric assistance dog in particular that I find the most helpful is how through training my dog how to assist me I’ve become much more active in my mindfulness.
Through most treatment plans for any mental ‘disorder’ you’ll hear or learn of mindfulness. It’s helpful when it’s practical. It was never truly practical for me til I began training a service dog.

As a reactive handler; it’s super helpful to me to exist with my dog. sometimes out of context from a distance I look a mess, or sound mean; but I’m hyper-self-aware of that. I likely sound mean because I’m upset with myself more than anything else. But I’m actively working on it, & my dog has been training to assist me in those exact moments.
