📢 Announcing the August workshop!📢Telling Your Own Story Through PuppetryLed by: Samuel J. Lewis & Lindsey Ball📍Where: Agitator Artist Collective [3851 w Fullerton Avenue, Chicago, IL 60647]🗓️ When: Saturday, August. 22 @ 2pm - 5pm CTHow do artists find their own voice? What kind of story are you telling and how are you choosing to tell it?In this participatory workshop, Lindsey Ball & Samuel J. Lewis will guide participants from initial inspiration toward an achievable first stage of creation. Through reflection, conversation, hands-on experimentation, and examples from the facilitators’ own practices, participants will explore how personal experience, research, imagination, materials, movement, sound, and different forms of puppetry can shape a story.Participants do not need to arrive with a finished idea or previous puppetry experience. Each person will leave with a clearer understanding of the story they want to investigate, a possible approach using puppetry, a small creative experiment, connections to useful community resources, and a practical next-step plan.Samuel J. Lewis, II, or Sam, is a puppeteer, teaching artist, and arts administrator from Chicago, IL whose work bridges tradition, innovation, and community. With a background in theater, Sam discovered puppetry by accident as a performer but quickly realized that it is a powerful medium for storytelling.Lindsey Ball (they/them) is an organizer, deviser, artist, maker, puppeteer, and crybaby. Ball is the original creator and co-curator of PUPPETQUEERS (@puppetqueers), an all queer puppet slam & collective in Chicago, which served as inspiration for the second chapter in NYC (@puppetqueersnyc). This offering is made for the queers (and their allies), by the queers, exploring beyond binaries of puppetry.PUPPETQUEERS is a DIY puppet slam event dedicated to uplifting and celebrating queer artists working within puppetry. From long-standing puppeteers to those new in the scene to those who may be experimenting with puppetry as a form for their art for the very first time, PUPPETQUEERS offers a home and a stage for all of them. Artists: Get studio space / access to our gallery resources / curate an exhibition...Apply for Agitator Gallery's ARTIST in RESIDENCE (AIR), for Oct 2026 - August 2027The Agitator AIR is assigned a 14’ X 12.5' private studio onsite at the gallery. May curate events, exhibit in the Members show in April and propose exhibition in the gallery and participate in a years worth of programmed exhibits. They act as a non-voting member for the duration of their residency. As such, they are included in discussions of gallery operations, and will attend monthly member meetings. The AIR is expected to host one public event during their tenure, and culminate their residency with an exhibition.
