POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Last night, I had the opportunity to attend the opening of Taryn Simon’s show at the Guggenheim: Father Country, I Do Love You. I’m challenged to convey how expansively creative her visual storytelling is in this exhibition. It is incredible. She based the exhibition on 42 conversations she had over a period of years with a retired FBI agent. The conversations are filled with intrigue, murder, birth, spies…and his actions ricochet outward and affect others. She dives further and researches the people and places within his stories and then translates each one into visual photographic and sculptural artworks. Im not sure I’ve ever experienced anything quite like it. It also fills the entire rotunda of the Guggenheim. If you are in NYC take a couple hours and walk slowly through it and read the stories. You will leave inspired, I promise. #tarynsimon taken in Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum by @agneseinstein

I recently returned from a week long trip to Wisconsin. I drove around the state to look at 11 different artist built environments and the Kohler art preserve, which is one of the best preserves/museums I’ve ever experienced. I’m still digesting what I saw and I will post about these spaces this week—they stretch the human imagination on how to inhabit spaces. More people need to be exposed to these types of people/artists…I think we can learn much from them. I also drove a lot…and it was a beautiful drive the entire way around. #wisconsin by @agneseinstein

If you ever happen to find yourself in Joshua Tree, CA, please do yourself a favor and head over to Noah Purifoy’s desert art museum. It’s such a unique experience. Try going in the morning or evening when the light is spectacular and golden and the shadows are leggy and long. There’s slways a part of me in Joshua tree right now. I think about it a lot. #noahpurifoy #artenvironments #joshuatree by @agneseinstein

So, I turned 50 today. I’m on a solo trip to Mexico City for my birthday, and I just love, love, love, love, love, love this city. I just picked some random photos to share…the art, the food, the flora, the history, the museums, the architecture, the people, the neighborhoods, Frida, Diego, Trotsky, all the colorful characters. What a city. I feel very happy to be here for this moment. I’m annoyed that my Spanish is so bad, but I’m going to change that this year. As Frida would say, Viva la Vida!! by @agneseinstein

Installation views of “Reclaiming History: Selections from the Tinwood Foundation,” on view at the National Center for Civil & Human Rights through March (@civilandhumanrights). Only about a month left to see the exhibition in person in the new NCCHR building downtown. The building has been renovated and has two new wings with the history of Reconstruction and the Civil Rights movement. There is an exhibit with the MLK papers, and the lunch counter experience is intense but important. If you have not brought your kids over, now is a great time. Curator @fuller315 did a fantastic job—go read his wall text!

Featuring the work of artists Mary Lee Bendolph, Hawkins Bolden, Archie Byron, Thornton Dial Sr., Lonnie Holley, Joe Light, Ronald Lockett, Joe Minter, Mensie Lee Pettway, and Mary Tillman Smith. by @agneseinstein

So, a couple months ago, Some good friends and I got to be part of the first cooking class at Stillhouse for cooks in Elijay, GA. I wanted to give it a proper post, because it was such a fantastic experience. The owner Dana Nahai @dananahai is a nutritionist, chef and such a wonderful person. I felt so taken care of the entire time. From the Persian frittata and apple bread to start, to the best chicken dish I’ve ever eaten, it was all amazing. I feel like I know my way around the kitchen, but I learned so much. Everything was infused with herbs and teas. I learned better knife skills, how to make bechamel and custard, and made beautiful fall inspired crepes. And of course the lemon balm tea infused chicken that was lights out! She also made one of the most delicious goat cheese and pear spreads with homemade goldenrod crackers (with foraged goldenrod) that is one of the best appetizers I’ve ever had. And you get to eat all of this in the north Georgia forest in her brand new little farmhouse. It is seriously the best. I will be going back soon. You can check out Instagram @cookatstillhouse or go on her website: cookatstillhouse.com. If you like to cook and want an amazing experience, check it out! @northgeorgia @cookingschool @nutrition @elijay by @agneseinstein

For the last 5 years, I have been working on one of the most important projects that I might ever work on, and today I get to help introduce it to the world. Today, Paul and I, along with his brothers and family, and many many contributors, but particularly, @jacksonmarkovic, and @gloryfires, and @music.decker for all of their help with the organization, inventory, record location, art handling and general setup of all the systems that create an arts foundation with a collection of this magnitude…get to announce the Tinwood Foundation, which will steward William S. Arnett’s art collection into the future. Here is the repost from our Instagram @tinwoodfoundation:

"We are very happy to announce that @thearnettcollection is now @tinwoodfoundation. Since 2019, this Instagram has featured art, artists, and events having a relationship to Atlanta collector William S. Arnett (1939-2020).  Upon his death, Arnett bequeathed an extensive art collection to the creation of a non-profit organization, the Tinwood Foundation. The Foundation promotes understanding and appreciation of the Black art, artists, and culture of the American South.  Using its collection, and in partnerships with other institutions, the Tinwood Foundation develops innovative programming to enhance the history of American Art.

In collaboration with the National Center for Civil and Human Rights, in Atlanta, the Tinwood Foundation’s first programming initiative is an exhibition of Black Southern artists called, “Reclaiming History: Selections from the Tinwood Foundation”, opening to the public on November 8th, 2025.

I’m on a bit of western adventure right now, and had to take a break to post about Noah Purifoy’s art environment in Joshua Tree, CA. This is one of the most impactful art experiences I’ve had, and I’ve seen a good bit of art in my days. I’m not sure if it’s my love of permaculture and reuse, but this blew me away. I’ll post more about the history later, but for now, I’m dropping a few images of this remarkable place. #noahpurifoy taken in Noah Purifoy Outdoor Desert Art Museum of Assemblage Sculpture by @agneseinstein

I’m down in Belize right now, and it has completely won me over. The coral reef system down here is amazing. Ive already swam with a zillion beautiful fish, sharks and manatees. (Great whites dont come over here usually). You can fish and catch a million snapper and barracuda and eat it fresh. The guys who took us out the first day caught lobster and made us fresh lobster ceviche on the boat. There are cave systems all throughout the country to explore that take your breath away they are so beautiful. Mayan temples filled with history. I don’t know, I could see myself down here a lot more. No one is on their phones. It’s one of the most relaxed places ive ever been. If you are thinking about going, may to early June is a fantastic time to come. It’s the low season and no one is here. And it’s so reasonable to stay here and to eat their amazing food. It’s cheaper to fly down here than to stay on the beach in the states. Anyway, if you are looking for a place close by, I would very much give Belize a look. It’s the best. by @agneseinstein

Oh, this tugs at my heart strings. Miles went back to his elementary school yesterday for one last morning meeting to celebrate the 2025 graduates that went to ANCS (Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School). This is a picture with one of his two kindergarten teachers @ihaveaphotograph (we missed you @theemrswilke!!). He had the best kindergarten teachers, who I have stayed in touch with all these years since. I remember them showing up at our house right before kindergarten to meet him, so he would feel comfortable and less nervous. ANCS really was a very close and supportive school family, and I appreciate the values they helped instill in my kids, starting with Karen and Elizabeth. Thank you to all of his wonderful teachers and staff during those years! He was really happy to go back and see everyone! taken in Atlanta, Georgia by @agneseinstein

This is the first time Ive done one of these but I read some interesting books this year and these were some of the most interesting and impactful. I’m still reading Imani Perry’s “South to America”, because half way through I decided to start over and slow down. It’s historical and poetic at the same time. Her voice is quite unique. Really interesting, historical look at the south. “A Little Life” was beautifully written, but the saddest book I have ever read in my life. It stayed with me for a long time after I finished it. “Color” is a historical look at the genesis of pigmented color and how each color was used around the world. “Brain Energy” was one of the best books I’ve ever read on mental health. I read a lot of books about the brain, but this one felt somewhat ground breaking. Walter Isaacson’s deep dive on Leonardo Da Vinci was insanely fascinating, and Lydia Davis is a fucking genius at storytelling. by @agneseinstein
