Usually I’d like to convey hard truths or clear statements. This year I felt I had to do it a bit different. This year I wanted to make a mark to exactly what’s going on in the world right now.

- I chose to not dress up or do any extravagant for my clothing nor makeup, I chose my everyday clothing.

- I chose this outfit to symbolize anonymity and how everyday hate is being used by ”anyone” and anywhere.

- I chose this outfit to symbolize how normalized the hate is and that it just walks by most people without them even noticing it.

- I chose this outfit to symbolize the hate that many LGBTQI people and other marginalized people feel every, single, day.

Cause that’s exactly what many marginalized people get - Hate directed towards them every day.

With the media coverage West Pride has had this year (thank you for that) it’s just to search up any unmoderated channel and you’ll see how the hatred flows within the comments and right now many people want to blame other minorities for this (whether it’s for religion or ethnicity) which to me is sickening.
It is so much more complex than that.

The hate is increasing rapidly within all groups at the same time - even certain groups of ”feminists”, which to me is still so incredibly sad.

I’ve heard so many times that we don’t have hate here in Sweden and that we don’t have any problems.
But the amount of hate and attacks I’ve had directed either at me personally, towards West Pride or my community this week is beyond comprehension.

West Pride is coming to a close today and this movement has to keep on going way beyond this week - it has to become the norm to stand up for what is right.

The time has come for allies to be the vanguard of the minorities in this country - because trust me, the fear many of us are feeling now is that we’re right now one violent crime away of letting history repeat itself.

Drygt en timme in i programmet.

Våga rösta för en human politik där demokratin inte demonteras och våga ta ställning för allas rätt att vara sig själva - oavsett vem du är! ❤️🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈 taken in Gothenburg by @agnesrudbo

Efter mycket arbete är det snart dags att ta lite semester. Men innan dess skall jag försöka bli ett år äldre på pappret och göra lite bokföring. Men innan dess är det helg.

Glad midsommar på er alla! 🙏 by @agnesrudbo

This year was a reminder that we’re not done, not nearly close to it.

I wanna first start off by saying a big massive thank you. To the volunteers, arrangers, musicians and artists, producers and the community that visited the event. To the exhibitors, lectures, partners, fund givers and to all the additional staff that made this year’s event happen!

We made big progress on some fronts and small steps backwards on others when it comes to the festival.

We broke records in major fields (such as parade participants) and continued to develop our work with the community.

But honestly, we still have such long way to go..

The attacks on human rights that also happened throughout last week, both online and in public made a showing of how far we’re going in the wrong way. I’ve seen so much homophobia, transphobia and racism.

I’m not going to stop the fight though, i won’t cave in. I will continue to educate, speak up against ignorance, trying to build safe spaces for the community and the marginalized. I will fight for what is right. I know I’m not alone in this, I felt it this entire week. But we need people to rally right now for what is right. To not give in when it’s hard. Cause doing the right thing is not always doing what is easy.

Thank you for this year’s West Pride.

Sincerely,

Agnes Rudbo

I want to make one thing clear.
Just to be super clear with where I stand:

I stand with my queer people.

I stand with my trans siblings.

I stand with human rights and the UN declarations of humans rights, women’s rights and the children’s rights.

It’s election year in Sweden and there’s a ton of misinformation and disinformation spreading around right now. I might like a post or a comment - that’s that exact content I’m behind. That doesn’t mean that I stand behind what that person has said in other threads or posts.

Be smart about these coming months. taken in West Pride by @agnesrudbo
