Something happens when founders sit across from each other with no agenda… and no exit. Fuse 57 Columbus happened this week adjacent to the Making Midwest conference. Moderated a panel with @jbarnesnyc and @dnt4getaboutdre on “the made by humans trap” i.e., the moment that label stops being a differentiator and becomes virtue signaling. I'm convinced there are different types of documentaries out there. Some are B-Roll heavy, others are more archival heavy, and some prioritize animation because B-Roll and archival are sparse. The documentary we just launched from @colinandsamir was all of that: heavy archival, B-Roll (we only used a fraction of everything we captured), animation, sound design, etc. Everything had to be orchestrated into a cohesive whole. When you travel through the life of such a prolific duo, the story could have been told 100 different ways... so we had to pick, choose, and kill our darlings at every corner. But in the end, as always, less is more. I leave you with a screenshot of the timeline after clean-up... More than 7 TB of footage, hours of archival: everything had to be classified, color coded, etc. A special thank to my brother @samchapmanfilm for being my assistant editor, collecting precious archival, and placing small blocks on the timeline so I could massage them and get the story across. As I mentioned yesterday, I had to wear many hats in our current @colinandsamir documentary. Another aspect I participated in was lensing the whole shoot as DoP and Camera A. This shoot was particularly difficult due to a series of challenges: + Unexpected planning, we had to be ready all the time for whatever would be thrown at us. + Handheld walk & talk under harsh light conditions in NYC streets where exposure and white balance change constantly while you dodge everything in your way. + One minute we'd be on the street, the next inside a car going through a tunnel. + Intense crowd scenes. + Physical effort. + Waking up at 4AM to go to CNBC, with absolutely no daylight. And the list goes on... Despite all of that I tried to keep framing interesting, composition rich, and always have depth. I'm sharing a few stills from the documentary, not because these are "amazing", but because after all those challenges, I do feel these turned out okay, and I'm proud of how our documentary looks & feels. I’m sure @caseyneistat would be proud of me, everything was handheld or shoulder. For the color I worked with a Kodak emulation, while keeping it rich in saturation I didn't want to overindex on a too stylized image since this is a documentary, not a fiction film. I've been under the radar lately, hard at work on a documentary that just released last Friday on YouTube. We followed @colinandsamir during their first Press Publish Event in New York, and the journey ended up being so much more than covering an event. They say never meet your heroes... turns out Colin & Samir were that and much more. I wore many hats on this one: DoP, Art Director, Lead Editor, among others. Part of the job I'm excited to share is how we approached the film's more abstract, conceptual moments. We really wanted this piece to feel handcrafted, so I took inspiration from the surrealist movement and designed paper-crafted style frames that were then beautifully animated by @_bernabe in stop motion, before being sent back to me in layers so I could composite them all together. We're proud of what we achieved on this one, and I hope you'll enjoy it too. I invite you to watch the documentary , the link will be in the comments. Ever had the thrill of working on something that’s pure fiber-optic awesomeness? Well, I recently teamed up with my partner-in-crime @frankdewulf for @weareoval_be , and we had an absolute blast creating a campaign for @proximus Here’s the scoop on our three-pronged fiber fiesta: The Activation – A truck roaring through Belgium's major cities, showcasing the raw, unfiltered power of fiber internet. It's like Fast & Furious, but with a tech twist. Social Media – We sliced and diced the activation into bite-sized, social-friendly content. Fiber fast, fun, and made for scrolling! The Aftermovie – To cap it all off, we whipped up a punchy aftermovie that’s bursting with good vibes and success stories. Think of it as the highlight reel you didn't know you needed. If you were in Belgium and spotted a van that felt like it belonged in a secret mission movie, or maybe got approached by some mysterious agents, then yes, you were part of our fiber-filled adventure! I’m excited to share a few stills from a recent title sequence project I had the privilege to direct and post-produce for the @houseeuropeanhistory for their Bellum & Artes Exhibition. This project was particularly challenging because many of the artifacts were encased in protective glass, and their historical value required the utmost care. With strict insurance policies in place, we had to be incredibly thoughtful in how we approached the visuals. Every shot required meticulous framing, careful lighting, and a touch of creative magic in post-production to bring the story to life. Despite these constraints, I believe we managed to capture the essence of the exhibit and weave it into a compelling narrative. It was a true exercise in problem-solving and creativity, and I’m proud of what @bertdegraeve and I accomplished under these unique circumstances. Hello, friends. As the year winds down, I wanted to reflect on a few cherished frames from the “pitching graveyard.” These concepts were part of a project for Microsoft. While the final project took a different direction, I’m still proud of the creativity and thought behind these designs. Huge panoramic shots spread among 5 big screens. I share the same love for pitching as @monsonmitch , it is a unique challenge—a blank canvas where ideas can flow freely. Communicating the impact of AI, as we did here, required subtlety. We aimed to show how AI is an indispensable part of Microsoft’s toolkit without being too overt. Even though these concepts didn’t make it to the final cut, they remain snapshots of “what could have been.” Sometimes, the journey is about the process and the growth it brings. Last year I had the pleasure to work with my friend @ej.brieva on a cool project for @moneylioninc The goal was to teach people more about finance and have healthy finance practices. I helped with animation and animation TD on this one. Animation projected on giant LED screens while live action was filmed.
