Justice for Jane Doe. Cornell alumnae are with you, sweet sister. I am so sorry that the degree; the memories; the years of life on the Hill that you were entitled to were so violently and horrifically torn from you. I am so sorry that you had to feel so much fear, trepidation, anxiety, grief, horror, trauma, and likely shame—due to the society in which we were raised—for the horrific instance that was in no way your fault. You were just being a Cornellian—a night out at Moonies before heading back to meet up with alleged monsters whom you thought were your friends, back on campus. No amount of “justice” in the world will ever bring these precious years, that you’d worked so hard for, back to you; no amount of “justice” in the world will erase the trauma that you will carry with you for the rest of your life. But justice through the legal system is the bare minimum—and we will be loud and undeterred in demanding it for you. So much love, wherever you may be, Jane Doe. We believe you. We see you. One thing to want community in being too X for one group while being too Y for the other—which I note is a shared struggle across ALL biracial AND hyphenated-American folks. Wholly another to commodify identity while delighting in proximity to ⚪️ness, which is what the term enables through the cutesification of a term that gives a free pass to feel superiority borne from ⚪️ness. The immigrant-daughter travel experience is spending every second wishing that her parents are there with her and resolving to bring them with her, the next time. Shared Paris thrice; Rome twice; and now Tuscany, Lucca, and Firenze, with my Maman and Papa. I can’t wait to be able to bring them to Spain, one day. What a year it has been.

been wanting to fly my parents on Air France, ever since I had the privilege of upgrading with points, last year. being able to show my maman and papa the world while making transit as easy as possible for the knees that cause her a lot of pain has been a gift to me, rather than the burden that my parents insist that it is, to traverse this globe with them. grateful beyond belief for this trip of a lifetime. by @ahnroute
