Good morning lovely Wellington and beyond

It’s Monday morning and Charly’s getting the counter ready for you

Trays out, labels going on, coffee machine warming up and the pink café slowly coming to life.

There’s something rather lovely about this bit of the morning — before the door gets busy and while everything is lined up waiting for you.

So if Monday has already been a bit too Monday-ish… we’ve got coffee, cake and a listening ear waiting behind the pink door.

No rushing. No alarm-clock energy. No pretending Monday isn’t lurking around the corner. 😂

Just find somebody you like, wander into town and settle in for a Slouchy Sunday at the pink café.

Coffee, something sweet, a good natter and permission to take life at a slightly slower pace.

We’ll provide the pink chairs. You provide the slouch. ☕🍰

Something strange has happened at Wellington’s pink café… 🎃🖤

Halloween Town has arrived at A House of Cake!

Our windows have had their Nightmare Before Christmas transformation — and just look at them. 🖤

A huge thank you to Alex Williams Illustration, whose fabulous hand-painted artwork has brought our idea to life across the windows. 🎨

And this is only the beginning… this year we’re taking our little corner of Wellington all the way from Halloween into Christmas. 🎃➡️🎄

Last year the Sugarplum Fairy sold out at Taunton Brewhouse, and this December she’s coming to Wellington 🧚 🍰🧁

I’m creating a cosy pop-up garden hideaway at A House of Cake, with twinkly lights and patio heaters, where little ones can join the fairy for a magical story about a tiny mouse, with songs and plenty of joining in. After the story, Father Christmas arrives as a surprise, with a small gift for every child, plenty of time for a chat and photos, and a delicious House of Cake cupcake to finish.

For ages 1 to 5, with up to two grown-ups per child. £15 per child.

Thursday 17 and Friday 18 December, 10:15 and 11:30, at A House of Cake, 17 High Street, Wellington.

The groups are small and last year it sold out so I wouldn’t delay booking if you want to come!

The team are in, the coffee machine is on, the counter is full and everyone’s getting stuck in.

Meanwhile Chris has very conveniently disappeared to the footie. 😂⚽️

☕🎂 Well, this worked out rather nicely…

It’s International Coffee Day and it also happens to be Chris’s birthday! 🥳

If you know A House of Cake, chances are you know Chris. He might be making your coffee, writing up the cake counter, fixing something I’ve broken 😂 or disappearing out the back to tackle the next job.

But there’s another side to Chris that perhaps means even more to us.

Over the years, that counter has been a place for far more than coffee and cake. Chris is very often the one lending an ear, having a chat, noticing when someone isn’t quite themselves, looking out for people or simply making time when somebody needs it. 💗

That’s a big part of what we want A House of Cake to be — a little independent café where people know your name, notice when you haven’t been in for a while, and where you’re always welcome to pull up a chair.

So today we’re raising a coffee to Mr A House of Cake. ☕💗

Happy Birthday Chris! 🎂

84 today! 🎂💗

A very Happy Birthday to Mum — and A House of Cake’s very own Chief Pot & Bottle Washer. 😂

At 84 she’s still part of the gang behind the pink door: washer-upper, helper-outer, general sorter of things and a very important part of the family behind A House of Cake.

Because this place has always been more than cakes and coffee. It’s a family affair, and Mum is very much part of ours. 💗

So today we’re raising a cuppa (and obviously finding her some cake) to 84 years young.

Happy Birthday Mum! 🎂🥂💗

Although we might let you off the washing-up today… 😉

🌙💗 Wow, Wellington & beyond… WHAT a day!

Yesterday the HoC gang well and truly went for it! 🩷

We were in TWO venues at once — part of the brilliant grand opening of Wellington’s new Pump Track with our Decorate & Take cupcakes 🧁, while the rest of the gang kept our pink café going on the High Street ready for Wellington Carnival. 🎪🎩

The café doors were open for a whopping 12 hours, while behind the scenes the HoC gang clocked up 14+ hour shifts. Safe to say there are some VERY tired Mad Hatters today. 😂

So we’re having a well-earned Slouchy Sunday. No café, no piping bags, no alarms… although Chris will still be wearing his apron because Sunday roast waits for no man! 😂🍽️

A huge thank you to everyone who found us at the Pump Track, came through our pink doors, grabbed cake, waved as the carnival went past, stopped for a chat or simply joined in with what was a cracking day for our town.

Today we slouch. Tomorrow we’re back — Monday 10–5, business as usual. 🩷

Night night, sleep tight, lovely Wellington & beyond. 🌙✨

🎪 CARNIVAL IS LOOMING… and we’re here for it! 💗

Four years on the trot, and we still love seeing our High Street come alive for Wellington Carnival.

🩷 A House of Cake — open from 10am until late
🛹 Pump Track Grand Opening — 10am–2pm
🧁 Find us there with our Cake Make & Take
🎪 Carnival procession — 7:30pm

And with Carnival passing right outside our door, we’ll be here well into the night, until after the last float has rolled by. ✨
