Rethinking, hacking and building AI tools for creatives from design, arts and critical innovation.

POSTS STORIES REELS

✔️This project investigates how AI companion systems decontextualize culturally specific expressions of affection. Selected romantic film dialogues are re-simulated through role-play conversations with a companion AI, using the same narrative context and character settings. By comparing both versions, the project reveals how AI flattens tone, ambiguity, intimacy, and cultural nuance.

Second episode of our podcast on AI, where we get into a space that feels especially alive right now: the intersection between AI, art, and design.

To do that we join two people who are right at the center of it: Pau Garcia (@pau_aleikumsalaam), creative technologist and co-founder of @domesticdatastreamers, and Marta Handenawer (@handenawer), designer, researcher, and expert in digital culture. Moreover, they’re the directors of the Master in Applied AI for Arts and Design (@ai.elisava) at @elisava.school, a programme that’s really trying to rethink what it means to be creative in the age of AI.

🎧 Listen to the podcast, hosted by David Sabaté (@dsabate), on Spotify (link in bio), iVoox, Mixcloud, and the Elisava website.

Are you human?

Then stop proving it to machines.
Start proving it in the way you make.

MAIAD is a master for artists, designers, and creative minds who want to build, dissect, prototype, and provoke with AI. Not to automate creativity, but to question it, bend it, train it, break its defaults, and create work with intention.

Because in a world of prompts and automated answers, human agency becomes a creative and radical position.

Verifying you are human.

MAIAD students spent three months asking what it means to hijack AI.

Physical builds, browser extensions, fanzines and artifacts you can’t easily classify.

Come and see the results. May 29th, 2026

🌿 The students from the Master in Applied AI for Arts and Design (@ai.elisava), before the Beyond Session Talk, experienced something truly inspiring: the Augury Birdwalk with Gastón Welisch (@gastonwelisch)!

This walk was more than birdwatching - it invited students to think speculatively, blending design, curiosity, and critical engagement in the open air of Montjuic.

ALGORITHMIC GAZE SHOWCASE at The Data House wednesday 28th jan @ai.elisava @domesticdatastreamers by @ai.elisava

Let’s run a lap around AI discourses 🏃‍♀️
At the center of the ring is AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) - which is actually more of a narrative than a technology of its own.
This is the spotlight of “AGI Hype Arenas,” a datafied project by Hailey, Sofia, and Katarina, students from last year's edition of our Master's program in Data and Design (now MAIAD). Through data analysis and rhetorical examples from tech leaders, journalists, and academics, they built a scrollytelling interactive website
By creating a scrollytelling interactive website, they brought to life a data analysis of the discourse around AGI, showing - through examples of hype language from tech leaders, journalists and academics - how AGI is perhaps more hyped up than what it really is 💬📈
The site visually and conceptually frames hype as a metaphorical arena race - allowing users to navigate the ideas behind AGI hype for themselves, in an attempt to reclaim agency in the whole conversation. Understanding who’s setting the pace and why is crucial - the first step towards subverting the power dynamics that come with having full control of a narrative that affects us all.

🎪 ABOUT THE AIxDESIGN FESTIVAL
In May 2025, the AIxDESIGN Festival: On Slow AI transformed Loods6 in Amsterdam into a cozy 3-day playground for deconstructing mainstream AI stories, dreaming up new ones, and figuring out how to make them real through a fever dream of interactive talks, hands-on workshops, 600m art exhibition, film screening, and the gathering of hundreds of AI hotties, haters, weirdos, and whisperers from around the globe.

🎪 AIxDESIGN Festival: On Slow AI is made possible with the support of @stimuleringsfonds, @elisava.school, @the_naf_official, @beeldgeluid, @filmacademie, @cultuurfonds, Jagt Zwolsman fonds, @Loods6, and our lovely AIxD Community Supporters. by @ai.elisava

And that’s a wrap on the MADD! 🎉 A few weeks ago, the six students enrolled in the 2024-2025 edition of our MADD program with @elisava.school (Master’s in Data Design) displayed their final Master’s projects at the iconic Tres Xemeneies ex-power plant in Barcelona, along the rest of ELISAVA’s graduating classes 🎓
From a study of nostalgia as a rhetorical tool for populist politics, to weaving (literally!) menstrual trackers to critique the use of health technology for surveillance, each project explored its own rapport to materiality and data collection and visualization, while coming together in the omnipresent realization that the way we represent and design data plays a great part in our understanding and experience of modern life and society.
A huge congrats to Tara, Hailey, Maria, Rut, Katarina, Sofia - thanks again for making this final year of the MADD program a great success 🙌

And just like that that, we say goodbye to the MADD - because next year we are very excited to begin with a new program, the MAIAD! The Master’s in AI Applied to Arts and Design, also with ELISAVA - check out the IG account here (@ai.elisava ) to learn more! 🎨 by @ai.elisava

“Resistance is in the Cracks”: Performance Lecture by Abdelrahman Hassan @abdorepublic as seen at the AIxDESIGN Festival 🎤

Abdelrahman Hassan delivered this powerful performance lecture at the opening ceremony of the AIxDESIGN Festival: On Slow AI - and watching it back we’re still feeling all the feels 🔥
Through verse and critique, Resistance is in the Cracks mourns the loss of poetry in AI—and calls for its return as a method of collective care and cultivation, and as an antidote to AI’s logic of optimization
🌀 Abdo brings our attention to moments of breakdown, glitch, and failure in AI systems - challenging us to see technology’s cracks as openings for creative resistance ⛓️‍💥
Huge thanks to Elisava and their Master in Design for Responsible AI program for making this performance and its recording possible, and to Director Andres Colmenares @iam_internet for the beautiful introduction 🙏
