The truth is, sometimes a road is long, straight, and similar—people say it looks like the highways through the desert areas in America. I don’t know, I’ve never been there. And then there are roads that are parts of the Silk Road or the Great Spice Route—there are so many caravanserais along them! by @aidakiana

You can also recognize them by the number of parked trailers or KamAZ trucks (and there are a lot of them on the highways) — if you see many of those, the food is definitely good.
Their roads are mostly smooth. Although in some places the pavement is worn out — probably because of the summer heat and the constant flow of heavy trucks that travel day and night along the transit routes from the Persian Gulf to the Caspian Sea and beyond.
But overall, the roads are good. by @aidakiana

I really love driving along the roads of Persia — they’re very convenient. Everywhere you go, there are places where you can stop to get some hot water, use the restroom, pray if you need to, or take a nap during siesta. Along the roads you often see huge and not-so-huge malls (or shopping-center-type places, sometimes just small shops), gas stations with all sorts of useful things: rows of hookahs stuffed with crumpled tobacco, some unreal stone pots, onyx mortars, toys, mobile accessories, and a giant gas samovar (yes, they have gas everywhere) with boiling water for drivers. There are also little restaurants with their unchanged delicious kebab or fried chicken with pomegranate sauce… yum. by @aidakiana

I already have relatives here as well. I usually talk to them when we meet somewhere at different events, and sometimes just because. They are also wonderful people in my life.
You know, no matter where people live, they always turn out to be similar in some way: in the fact that they are all different, yet have the same emotions, problems, joys, life situations, issues related to raising children and dealing with aging, and much more. It turns out we are all very similar on the inside.

In Iran, I work in different roles — sometimes as a guide, sometimes as a supervisor, sometimes as a translator, or even some kind of consultant helping to sell various products to the countries of the former Soviet Union. Iran has enormous potential, but it’s limited by sanctions, including banking ones. by @aidakiana

My sister presented my business plan for the MBA course. Technically, it was her project, but I was the one who wrote it. The defense went really well—they accepted it and gave it a high evaluatio by @aidakiana

My life in Iran is quite full and eventful — though only if I want it to be. At one time, I had close Russian-speaking friends from the former Soviet Union and beyond, but some followed their grown-up children abroad, others left on their own, deciding that the grass is greener elsewhere. Everyone’s life circumstances are so different. There are still some of them around, but so few now…

I also have friends, acquaintances, and colleagues — Iranians, often all in one. Wonderful people, kind at heart by @aidakiana

All these endless double legalizations, dozens of stamps from every possible place, countless trips to Kazakhstan to the visa center, and so on. It turned out that if you studied in one country (Iran) and received your education there, it’s quite difficult to have it accredited in another country when applying to a university.

Well, what can you do… every child has the right to freely choose their education and the opportunity to study — but not everyone has it, or manages to get it. My daughter finally left a week ago, but unfortunately, all this fuss and the mismatches with the documents are still ongoing. As the Iranians say — my meat is still on the chopping board.

God grant that all children in the world can study wherever they want… and have the opportunity to study at all. by @aidakiana

There was a lot to take care of in Kyrgyzstan, mostly related to my youngest daughter. She applied for admission to the same country for the second time, but we missed the first year because of Iranian laws (they don’t issue high school diplomas right away — it takes about 8–10 months), which prevented us from submitting the documents on time. The second year, we had to navigate a huge number of legal requirements involved in the application process, depending on the specific regulations of each country. by @aidakiana

In Iran, everything feels easy for you — everything makes sense. You never get lost, you always understand people’s emotions, and you can talk about anything with ease, often surprising them with your knowledge of their sayings or expressions. But sometimes you might feel a bit shy — maybe because you accidentally behaved in a way that felt off, or because in the deep provinces people look at you as if you came from another planet. I think it’s not worth overthinking — maybe it’s better just to accept reality as it is in those moments. by @aidakiana

I’ve been living in Iran for quite a long time — almost 30 years now! Even I find it a bit strange. The feeling is somewhat hard to describe, yet completely logical.

When you live in the country where you were born, everything there will always feel like yours — you belong naturally. But when you spend many years in another country, growing up, experiencing both joy and sorrow, you start to take root. By default, that place becomes yours too.

Of course, you’ll never completely “blend in” — your appearance will always remind others that you’re from somewhere else. People tend to judge by looks first; they don’t care that you might know their poetry or geography better than they do.

What truly matters is how you feel inside. If everything still feels close to your heart — then it’s yours, no matter what.

When I visit my homeland, Kyrgyzstan, everything feels native and dear — grandmothers, children, the food, the leaves, the mountains, the people… Yet sometimes I catch myself thinking: in this or that situation, maybe I would have acted differently — in the way that’s now more natural to me. by @aidakiana

Nowadays, it’s easy to travel along the Silk Road — not like in the old days. And along the way, you can meet all kinds of people and things! By the way, my beloved Kyrgyzstan is one of the very first modern countries along the Silk Road. I have a suspicion — which historians might, of course, question — that the Tash Rabat caravanserai, located in the Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan, about 40 km from the Chinese border, may be one of the earliest surviving sites from those times, when silent and weary travelers made their way along these ancient routes.

Of course, in countries like Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, and Tajikistan there are far more such historical sites compared to Kyrgyzstan — but ours is special. It stands right at the very beginning, high in the mountains, surrounded by harsh nature, far from any settlements…

And so, starting with Iran and my own journey, I somehow ended up talking about the great roads of the world. I guess I’m always drawn to history — and a little bit to philosophy too. by @aidakiana
