To The kayaking community… I believe we could use more truth and realness about the negative aspects of the sport I went paddling today and came to a large realization.
It seems as though I have ran from my problems by using Kayaking for the past several years. I’ve devoted myself and just about everything to it, This time it’s different kayaking currently just reminds me of Gavin and the accident, At times I feel like my sense of self has been taken away, But I believe in reality I’m learning healthier more realistic coping mechanisms and actually learning things about myself. I think that it’s harder than just running to the river and forgetting about my problems I’m left to face them and figure them out and make myself better instead of just improving my skill set as a distraction. The river has brought me some of the biggest achievements and best memories but also my biggest problems in life recently. And it no longer feels like the safe space that it once did i’m sure one day my sense of home on the river will return, But until then I am wandering this never ending plane figuring out who I truly am I don’t know what my future holds currently for me and kayaking but I’m sure the river will call my name strongly again one day soon.

Past week of boating stoked to be getting out again,

Missing @gavinjostadkayak tons on and off the water much love to the kayak community and gorge family for organizing such an amazing memorial, and thanks to all the homies for rallying birthday dub for Gavin!
