Situated within a city shaped by destruction, memory, and reconstruction, the bunker is reframed not as a static monument, but as an active civic space embedded in everyday practices of reciprocity and sustenance.

Through this render, I was thinking about ways of representing the project through abstraction. The project becomes scaleless as it is registered in its separate parts: embedded bunker, a platform surface, and a paper roof. The render aims to convey constructability and minimal intervention.

This project proposes the adaptive reuse of bunkers along the Tempelhof Park ring in Berlin as a distributed network of reproductive commons, transforming infrastructures of war into infrastructures of care, maintenance, and collective life. Situated within a city shaped by destruction, memory, and reconstruction, the bunker is reframed not as a static monument, but as an active civic space embedded in everyday practices of reciprocity and sustenance.

The project is interested in exploring collectivity at different scales: 1:2000 looking at the urbanism and surrounding context of the Gardenstadt, 1:500 that explores construction for maintenance and repair, 1:100 at the building scale, to the closest intimate scale of the project at 1:20 that examines collectivity between bodies. This interest develops a tangent that explores the relationship between bodies in space and reveals ideas on entropy: thermal comfort and exchange as a new material on how we can think about designing for care, maintenance, and collective living.

This project proposes the adaptive reuse of bunkers along the Tempelhof Park ring in Berlin as a distributed network of reproductive commons, transforming infrastructures of war into infrastructures of care, maintenance, and collective life. Situated within a city shaped by destruction, memory, and reconstruction, the bunker is reframed not as a static monument, but as an active civic space embedded in everyday practices of reciprocity and sustenance.

The plan adapts itself to oscillate between spaces of temporality, flexibility, and scales of gathering. Within the bunker, the thermal properties are to be taken advantage of in order to allow for collective kitchens with storage; pantry; and refrigeration rooms, workspaces, and classrooms to be occupied that receive natural ventilation and light from above through the reclaimed chimneys. Above ground, the platform of the bunker is left for the residents, social organizations, and extended community to transform, re-adapt, and use.

This project proposes the adaptive reuse of bunkers along the Tempelhof Park ring in Berlin as a distributed network of reproductive commons, transforming infrastructures of war into infrastructures of care, maintenance, and collective life. Situated within a city shaped by destruction, memory and reconstruction, the bunker is reframed not as a static monument, but as an active civic space embedded in everyday practices of reciprocity and sustenance. There are four bunkers embedded within the park ring.

The Wolfring bunker, being the largest and still being actively used as a shooting club, is contextualized in a site with schools, recreation, and residential spaces. The proposal seeks to approach the bunker as a third space by transforming itself into a park pavilion that can be used collectively by the community, local organizations, and school children.

Sneckdown // Construction Analysis Drawings
A sneckdown, snowy neckdown, reveals latent urban potential: unplowed snow exposes surplus roadway that can be reclaimed for pedestrian use. This drawing superimposes three temporal states: original condition, snow accumulation, and permanent redesign to trace the transformation of a three-way intersection in Philadelphia into pedestrian-focused infrastructure. The project positions the sneckdown as both evidence and catalyst, translating ephemeral spatial conditions into lasting urban form.

Situated within a city shaped by destruction, memory, and reconstruction, the bunker is reframed not as a static monument, but as an active civic space embedded in everyday practices of reciprocity and sustenance.

The addition of the roof is structurally supported by the chimneys of the existing bunker. The chimneys are repurposed to allow for natural light and ventilation to inside of the bunker. The roof shades the platform of the bunker to allow for seasonal occupancy at the temporal scale. The bunker allows for scales of collectivity and exchange to occur: summer picnic above, winter programs embedded within, flower market in the spring, or farmer’s market in the fall.

Infrastructural Walk
A collection of drawings that study the highway as an urban condition across scales, from regional transit mapping and site relationships to construction details and bodily interaction between human, car, and road.
I was interested in understanding the highway not only as circulation infrastructure, but as a way of experiencing the city through signage, tolls, barriers, speed limits, and moments of orientation. At the same time, the study reframes the highway as an infrastructure of care: caution signage scaled to the body, concrete barrier details designed for protection, and systems that negotiate safety, maintenance, and movement.
Drawing across macro, meso, and micro scales became a way to reveal how infrastructures shape both collective movement and intimate everyday experience.
