I try to hold back tears every time I see this featured in Forbes.

Not because of the recognition…But because most people have no idea what it cost me to still be standing.

A year ago this month, I made one of the hardest decisions of my life. I chose peace and walked away from relationships and environments that were toxic.

Some of the doors I shut were massive opportunities… including connections tied to one of the biggest Christian music festivals in the nation.

At the time, it felt terrifying.

There were lies spoken. Assumptions made. Finger-pointing from people I once respected.

But every time I wanted to defend myself, I felt God whisper:“Be still. I’ll handle it.”

So I stayed focused. I stayed kind. And I kept showing up for the people God called me to serve.

And somehow… God did more with my surrender than I ever could’ve done with my own striving.

This past year has become the busiest year of my career. More schools than ever. More lives impacted than ever. And when we aren’t speaking in schools, my wife @amanda_coverly and I are traveling the world together performing on cruise ships, developing a magic & music show in the Tampa Bay area, @the_mocktail_snob events and ready to launch our new podcast, @nakedhumanityshow

Years ago, being featured in Forbes felt like success.

Now? Peace feels like success. Healing feels like success. Knowing I stayed true to who God called me to be… that feels like success.

I am asked often “who inspires you?” The answer is simple … my “haters” —Those who never believed in me, rooted for my failure, or thought focusing on my mistakes instead of their own was worth it. All you did was give me fuel to keep going, keep choosing peace, forgiveness, kindness and grinding harder than ever before.

If you’re in a season where walking away is painful, just know this:

Not every open door is meant for you and not every closed door equals failure. Let God protect your purpose!
