For angering and outsmarting the gods, sisyphus was condemned to push an immense boulder up the hill.
I am no different; I only traded the boulder for the sword.

At fifteen,

I picked up a profound interest for Japanese Budo.
Budo literally translates to' path of the warrior '.

Naturally, after watching a documentary made by martial artist and actor Mark Dacascos which retraced the life of legendary swordsman Miyamoto Mushashi, I became even more fascinated with the character. It was not the first time that I had heard of the name of the legend who at age thirteen had made his first kill and then went on to win 60 duels to death over the course of his life before retreating to the mountains to reflect over his victories and the strategy behind them. My father was the first to tell me about Musashi's tales and at the time he had his portrait mounted on the wall of our own dojo.

To me, Musashi was what Ronaldo or Messi were to others !

Eventually, I read the book of five rings and looked up his quotes and one of them stuck with me profoundly, more than others over the years, perhaps for its simplicity and given the context of my life back then; a teenager looking for answers to his questionings and to his own fears, shortcomings and insecurities.

It went like this :

"There is nothing outside of yourself that can ever enable you to get better, stronger, richer, quicker, or smarter. "

In the end, my friend, it's you facing the man in the reflection daily. Compare yourself to none but yourself yesterday and where you want to be tomorrow and the rest will adjust.

Our recent collaboration with Aikido Club de St Pierre (Reunion Island) and Aikido Club du Centre (Mauritius) is the fruition of a long friendship forged in dedication and a shared passion that extends over two decades.

Our latest seminar brought together 70 children on the mats under the experienced, watchful eye of Stéphane Ethève, 5th Dan in Aikido, leader of the Aikido Club de St Pierre, who led the seminar. Through excellent pedagogy, leadership, and natural charisma, he prepared and assessed our young practitioners for their next grading. This was perfectly in line with our philosophy of perpetual refinement and our outlook on international exposure. We thank all our members and collaborators for their participation, which turned this event into a huge success!

Stay tuned—there is more to come this year! 👏 by @aiki_league
