One of my biggest fears when I was deciding to “come out” was making the locker room weird. I thought that telling my teammates this thing about who I’ve always been would create discomfort. If you scroll to the end of this carousel, you will see what happened instead.

One day, after I came out, I didn’t go to class because I felt unsafe as a publicly lesbian student-athlete. I didn’t tell many people, but, somehow almost my entire team met me as I headed into our practice facility to walk me into the building. They saw me, and they loved me. And I bawled like a baby on the sidewalk.

It’s Pride Month, and I Play for Pride every day. But, this month, I’m teaming up with @athleteally to raise funds to help support other LGBTQ+ athletes. I am fortunate enough to have a great support system, but many do not, and this important organization advocates for them.
