When Isadora Duncan performed her ancient Greek interpretive dances at the Acropolis in 1921 she awakened the world to ancient themes connected to gods, muses. A Vienna mood? Romantic but edgy ,this waltz no 2 by Shostakovich always has fascination as it juxtaposes melancholy in the minor key against a bright cheeriness .
