Such a diverse and interesting array of pieces available at @somlo_london and a huge thank you to the team there for hosting a delightful cosy women’s watch event. Also missed from the video, but they had an adorable silver bell that you could ring when you were ready for a champagne top up 🥹🥰

She was getting a lot of love on my story the other day so I guess the cat is out of the bag; or more aptly, the watch is out of the box!

Absolutely smitten with this new addition, 27mm Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore 🥰 a little celebration of 5 years at Subdial! by @aimeecowhig

A more Sicilian pace of life. Very grateful for a full and busy life living in London; it makes slowing down for a week to share intentional time with wonderful people all the more meaningful.

Highly recommend a trip to the Aeolian islands 🫶🏻 taken in Aeolian Islands by @aimeecowhig

I went to @hands.on.horology horology on Saturday and I have serious thoughts about it…

I’m in an incredibly fortunate position where I’m surrounded on a daily basis by some pretty insane watches. When I saw hands on horology was exhibiting over the weekend with a bunch of small indie brands I’ll be honest, I was a little dismissive.

What an error on my part.

The show was incredibly well executed, a bright, well lit (surprisingly rare for watch events!) spacious area hosting more than 45+ brands. A sell out show. A wait list for exhibitors. A drink included within your ticket price (hello!)

Let’s get into it. For people who are entering into watch collecting, or seasoned collectors who are looking for something funky to add to their collection but aren’t looking to spend 10’s or 100’s of thousands of pounds to invest in high horology independent brands, there was great selection of brands to explore. Watches were ranging from c£300 - 15k. The vast majority… right in the sweet spot at £500 - £1,500. A few things that stood out for me in particular:

1) Bracelet quality and finishing. There were some amazing examples to see of well constructed bracelets with so much thought into the design. Something that is easy to overlook, particularly when you’re a young brand. Atelier Wen and Venezianico are worth mentioning here as some particularly beautiful stand outs.

2) The use of colour! So many stunning dial colours and variations. So great so see such personality being available! Shout out for Nodus and Dennison.

A few specific extra mentions: Maghnam. Incredibly sleek yet creative in design (think if MB&F and Urwerk had a love child that you could actually fit under a cuff!) they have undoubtedly complex case constructions and an artistic language that’s very unique. Around 8k in price point, but hard to beat as a talking piece. Beda’a had a great jump hour and the Guichets were absolutely delightful; 2k and under! Furlan Marri also with an amazing disco volante with lab grown diamonds to keep the price point accessible (restocking soon)

My socks were well and truly blown off by the organisation of the show. Well done to @oracletime for a great event. 🥂 by @aimeecowhig

Watch events have been amping up over the past few weeks and I’ve met so many great new people, so thought it’s probably time to do a little reintroduction.

Hi, I’m Aimee, head watchmaker for Subdial watches and Louped watch repairs. I joined the watch industry 15 years ago at a time when watches were still seen to be quite nerdy and dorky. It’s quite incredible how much the culture has changed over the past few years where watches have grown in popularity and around this growth there’s a real sense of community forming.

I started out it working in a jewellers with watches and jewellery and really found a passion for horology. After a year and a half sadly without the career advancement I was looking for to become a watchmaker, I secured a job working for one of the biggest watch companies in their service centre. A foot in the door there meant I was able to apply for watchmaking school and kickstart my career. At 20 I moved to Manchester for 2 years to study watchmaking at the BSOW. A fantastic opportunity and experience that I’m still incredibly grateful for. I specialised in Omega for a number of years, working in one of their boutiques based in London before the opportunity presented itself to build a workshop from the ground up with the team at Subdial.

Years of graft and craft have gotten me to this point. I’m very appreciative of all the opportunities I’ve had over the years and excited to see both the industry and the collector community continue to grow. I’ll be at the London Watch Week townhouse this evening so if you see me, come say hi 😊 by @aimeecowhig

What an incredible evening. We were invited to meet the ever charming and charismatic Jean-Claude Biver, an icon from the watch world who has shaped the industry to what it is today.

For those who don’t know, his work helped shift the mindset of horology during the quartz crisis from watches being a single thing you needed to tell the time, to them turning into a luxury item fuelled by passion, creativity and beauty.

His career has spanned multiple milestone moments including reviving Blancpain during the quartz crisis, transforming Tag Heuer to appeal to a younger audience, the creation of the Big Bang for Hubot which love it or hate it, was an absolute turning point for the brand. He was instrumental in Omega securing the contract to become the “bond watch”, kickstarting a new trend of seeing luxury watches in popular culture. His work has undoubtedly contributed to the transformation of the modern day market.

Today, his legacy is closer to home, creating his own exceptional timepieces with his family working along side him in the business. The movement finishing of @biverwatches is absolutely outstanding and they are truly wonderful to see and hold.

What an amazing opportunity to meet with such a legendary figure and admire the pieces he is now creating. Thank you @jcbiver for your time and enthusiasm and a huge thank you to @acejewelers @alonbenjoseph for a wonderful event.

If you’d like to learn more about his work with Blancpain, you can sign up to the @subdialwatches Curates exhibition on the 22nd and 23rd of May where we will be highlighting the Villeret in all its glory. taken in Boisdale of Belgravia by @aimeecowhig

We welcomed some incredible women to the Subdial clubhouse last week, where we spoke about watches (of course), navigating male dominated industries and had a glass or two of some selected wines.

We spoke in depth with Caroline, Kathleen and Aimee about their careers, their style and what watches are in their collections - and on their wish lists.

We’d love to thank all of the brilliant women who joined us on the night to connect, try on watches and most importantly bond over watches and wine. by @aimeecowhig

For this year’s International Women’s Day, we’re hosting some incredible speakers at our Women in Watches event. Scan the QR code to find out more and RSVP!

On this occasion, we’re asking that only female guests join us. There’ll be plenty of other events we’re hosting that’s open to all, including a watch meet the following week so keep an eye out for that. by @aimeecowhig
