A very simple and obvious reminder to myself, but one that easily slips to the back of my mind when life gets busy.

To not treat joy as something finite. I’ve often starved myself of it, thinking it needed to be rationed and earned, as if joy, worn too casually, might lose its value.

Watching the way Italians moved through life mirrored back to me just how disconnected I had been from my own joy, rhythm and inner guidance.

Overriding my rest signals. Directing, managing, steering, holding everything together while holding myself to unrealistic standards (guilty!)

There is a woman that lives in my mind’s eye. I call her “the calm older woman.” I need to tell you about her, she is delicious.

I visit her often, listening closely for guidance on how to move closer to her.

Every time I start a new journal, I write an overview of my life as it is in that moment - my age, what I’m pondering, what I’m doing for work, anything I’m excited about, what’s happening around me and where I hope to be by the time I reach the final page.

This journal was huge, so it took me a while to reach the end. The life I’m living now looks vastly different from the one I described at the beginning. It’s such a lovely way to recognise the growth that might otherwise go unnoticed and to have a little timestamp of who you were and what mattered to you at that moment.

Photos can capture the intimacy of day-to-day life, but they can’t tell you what you were thinking or who you were becoming at the time in the same way a journal can.

Capturing my emotional world feels just as important. Even if it’s just to entertain my 80-year-old self looking back at what I was thinking about at 29 🪄 by @aimeeeaton
