These pictures are almost exactly 10 years apart. This is not a post about aging. I’ll just add that I think of aging as a privilege. Of course, my skin and hair have changed, I’ve gained weight, but this is about what’s going on inside. I also don’t have a large following. I created an Instagram account some time in 2021 after being adamantly against social media for years. Partly because of my spiritual beliefs and partly because of the fear of being perceived. The latter is something I’ve struggled with my whole life and am currently working on to overcome (one reason I’m posting this). I’m posting this not only for myself, but with the hope that it may help someone. If one person is encouraged, it has purpose 🤍
I posted the photo from 2015 to my stories a few days ago with the caption “trying to get back to this girl”. And no, technically I was not a “girl” at that time. I sometimes use the term to refer to women of any age because to me it’s about a feeling, tapping into the innocent joy of your child-self. When I took this picture, that’s what I was feeling. Just me, my joy, my freedom. Listening to music, singing along while walking in the sunshine. It was like those feelings were bottled up inside this photo and everytime I would see it, I’d remember what it was like to feel that. I took this photo around the time of my divorce and I distinctly remember this day because I had finally started feeling better about myself. After beating myself up for thinking I was a failure, this day I finally felt, happy. Unfortunately, after this day, life would get more difficult for me. I won’t get into too many details here but, after years of burnout and struggling with my mental and physical health, I’m finally able to climb out of that deep, dark hole.
