Like many of my female friends and neighbors and acquaintances, sadly, this is not new information to me. And that’s not to say it isn’t horrific. And, it’s hitting different right now, for a number of reasons.

I’m also VERY aligned with the men and women who are calling on MEN - our male friends, neighbors, family members, etc to take OWNERSHIP of this horrific reality and STAND UP in every way possible against this misogynistic rape culture that surrounds us.

While seemingly unrelated (but actually very much related), it also feels important to recognize that what WE are demanding of MEN here (as table stakes!) feels a lot like what black and brown folks mean when they say that WE (ie white folks) need to be the ones fighting systemic racism and putting our body’s and our “comfort” on the line towards dismantling systemic racism. What happens when you bring a Fortune 500 creative director, a photographer whose work has appeared in Italian Vogue and The New York Times Magazine, a global sound artist, a tech entrepreneur, a yogi, a travel journalist, a woman-owned ski resort founder from Montana, a Colombian creative director, a podcaster featuring entrepreneurs, a stylist and a hospitality leader around one table?

We’re about to find out.

On October 14, we’re hosting our sixth community connection dinner at Diane’s Place in Northeast Minneapolis.

The people joining us have worked across Best Buy, Aveda and AOL and contributed to Italian Vogue, The New York Times Magazine, Condé Nast Traveller, Travel + Leisure, BBC Travel, Fortune, Minnesota Star Tribune and more.

They’ve captured soundscapes across Cuba, South Africa, Turkey and New Zealand. They’ve built hotels, restaurants, technology companies, live experiences, media platforms and cultural projects. They include women forging new paths in traditionally male-dominated industries—and people using creativity, business and community to imagine what comes next.

Different industries. Different life experiences. One table.

These dinners are about stepping outside our usual circles, seeing the shared humanity in one another and discovering what can happen when thoughtful people genuinely connect.

Last night was such a beautiful reminder of what happens when you put really special humans in a room together. ✨

We kicked off @createcultivate weekend with the most incredible dinner so many thoughtful conversations, new connections, big ideas and women doing extraordinary things.

And tomorrow, the festival officially begins (!!) with 150+ speakers including @alixearle , @whitney , @halleberry @jenatkinhair and so many more.

There’s something really powerful about being surrounded by people who are building, creating, reinventing and figuring it out in real time.

Feeling very grateful to be here, very inspired by the humans I met last night, and VERY ready for tomorrow. by @aimeeslaimee

I’ve been a Marc Jacobs fan for as long as I can remember…

But watching the Marc by Sofia documentary made me realize that what I’ve always been drawn to wasn’t only the fashion...it was his universe and his point of view.

I love his references. The art. The music. The people. The humor. The weirdness. The obsession with details. The constant collecting of ideas and images and moments and then somehow turning all of it into something unmistakably his. I relate to how he finds inspirations in the funniest of places.

Watching Sofia Coppola’s intimate portrait of him felt less like watching a documentary about a fashion designer and more like getting a glimpse inside the brain of an artist. 🧠 And I loved that.

Maybe because the older I get, the more interested I am in how creative people actually see the world. Where ideas come from. What they notice that other people don’t. How a lifetime of seemingly unrelated references eventually becomes a body of work.

And how you keep evolving without losing the thread of who you are.

I’ve admired Marc’s work from afar for decades, which makes this next part feel pretty surreal:

On Friday, September 11, from 5–7pm, I’m hosting a small event at the Marc Jacobs store at Southdale with Aimee Egan and Jodi Mayars.

There are people whose work becomes part of your creative vocabulary long before you ever imagine you’ll be in the same room.

Marc is one of those people for me.

Life is weird and wonderful sometimes 🩶🖤🤎

Comporta, Portugal does not disappoint! Only 36 hours in and I’m all bliss, buzz and joy. It truly is a very special place.

Last night I was surrounded by a “Crowded Table” of people who I love and respect as I celebrated my time at Shutterstock and said “Bye for Now” to friends and colleagues in NYC.

Thank you to everyone who made it out and to everyone else who couldn’t be there but we felt in spirit!
