Is there anything better than finding out that the man behind the mask (literally) is one of the kindest, most grounded, humble people you have ever met? It has been such a special week getting to spend time with @thejewishfitnesscoach and his incredibly special parents, meeting his amazing sister on zoom, and spreading love with @hannahugs socks! He brought so much inspiration, joy, and light to our @lchaim_center community and I can’t wait to cheer on Batman this Sunday at the marathon running in honor and memory of Ariel and Kfir Bibas. So blessed to call this family my friends. They are also Leo and Pearl approved 🙂

This is the first October 7 after my trip to Israel. The first October 7 since I walked the grounds of the Nova Festival, making my way through the seemingly endless rows of posters and memorials of the hundreds of souls murdered while dancing at a festival for peace. The first October 7 since I walked through Hostage Square where the posters of the murdered hostages who had not been returned still hung.

This is first October 7 since my involvement with Brothers for Life, where I have witnessed and learned the true definition of וּבַחַרְתָּ בַּחַיִּים - Choose Life. I am honored and blessed to call these heroes my friends.

This October 7 feels different in so many ways. I feel different. I am different. I am different than the person I was on October 6, 2023. That isn’t new. I have known that since we saw the first protests against Israel when no counter attacks had been made, when we were still counting our dead and searching for our missing. I have known that since I was asked to remove my stars by a show producer and since I resigned from a board after the leadership of the theater told me “Not all Jews feel that way” about blatant Jew-hatred. I have known that since a once dear friend said, “we can agree to disagree” about a person who openly hates Jews.

I am different because I am cautious about who I let in. I am different because I learned I do have a limit as to how badly I will let someone treat me before I say enough. I am different because I am now surrounded only by people who fill my cup, raise my spirits, elevate my soul, and make me better.

I am different because I love myself more than I did before October 7, 2023.

Elon Family Weekend was a blast. Seeing Jonah so happy and knowing he is exactly where he should be is a dream come true. I haven’t watched him play baseball in a very long time!! The Club Baseball team is a very special group of guys. Amazing to see Jonah so seamlessly fit in with a new community. He certainly found his people with his team and his awesome roommate. Leaving NC with an overflowing heart (and a slightly heavier suitcase thanks to @browntheshop ).

The final performance of The Affair of the Poisons workshop is this afternoon. It has been wonderful, challenging, frightening, and fulfilling to work on a musical again after so long. Turns out, those little voices of insecurity were just lurking in the background, waiting to pounce. Going into summer, I did not realize how much work I would end up doing on myself through this process and I am thankful for the opportunity to push through and, ultimately, feel proud of the work I am doing. Also, this is a wildly lovely group of humans involved in this production and I would be so thrilled to work with all and any of them again. 💙💙💙

After many hours of unpacking and organizing his dorm room, spending time with his awesome roommate and his parents (could not have asked for anyone better @dcsteinb ), a beautiful Shabbat with the Jewish organizations on campus, convocation, and a lovely family picnic @jonahkleiman officially begins his freshman year at @elonuniversity . I don’t know that it has hit me yet. I’m pretty sure it has not. I do know that Jonah is so ready for this next adventure and I can’t wait for him to get started 💙 by @aimeevkleiman

Some of the menschiest people turn up when you least expect it. I waited tables at @pizzahouseannarbor with Carlos in 1998-1999. We haven’t seen each other or spoken in more than 25 years, but when he saw that Jonah was moving to North Carolina for school he reached out to offer to be an emergency person should Jonah need anything. It was such an unexpected and appreciated kindness. So good to see him today after so many years! Other than forgetting how tall he is, it felt like no time had passed! It’s so good to know good people. 🙂 by @aimeevkleiman
